Madeira is famous for its levadas, narrow irrigation channels dating back to the 15th century, created to carry water across the mountainous island from the rainier north-west side to the more arid south-east. There’s one to our left.

Yes, Madeira is a dream. What a wonderful journey. I enjoyed your report about this nature around very much.
Thank you for sharing and for hosting.
Greetings by Heidrun
The pleasure’s mine, thank you, Heidrun!
Thank you for the beautiful and lush greenery take alongside your hike. I love the bright sunshine, beautiful sky and bananas. Great photos, Keith and looks like it was an outstanding hike. Cheers.
Very tiring but well worth every step! Thanks, Suzette.
I would have loved to visit there. Beautiful shots. I nice walk too.
Thank you for hosting the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week, Keith. 🙂
You’d have loved it I’m sure! Thanks, Sandee.
enjoyed your photos – and the fun sigh to help with the disney trip?
If I’d had some coins, I’d have bought one!
🙂
what a beautiful place to walk
Heavenly!
Enchanting wilderness shots- and sure, I’ll have a banana 🍌
Help yourself, Jodi!
Pweetty 🙃
It is amazing! Thank you for always sharing your wonderful adventures with us.
Yes, we have no bananas!! Are you kidding me? Stunning photos, dear Keith, and that hike is not for the faint of heart. I’ll be at the bar when the group gets back, speaking to the parrot! 🦜
Great to see your hiking adventures in Madeira, Keith! The photos of the levadas and the natural beauty of the island are stunning.
It definitely looks like a dense jungle. It would be fun to see the banana plantation. Mom has a friend that moved down there, not sure if she likes living there or not.
This is an unusually beautiful trek to take
I am surprised that Madeira is such a tropical climate—with its ferns and bananas and thick vegetation. I did not know that. Beautiful walk.
Looks a beautiful hike. And such a lush and tropical landscape; I wouldn’t have expected that for Madeira.
Beautiful place. Thanks for sharing the pics
Your photos as always are lovely, and really show the vibrant colours of Madeira.

Contrary as usual, I’d hate it there. My claustrophobia kicks in just looking at the pictures. 😉
Definitely not for you then!
Hi Keith – love the flora – Agapanthus and Crocosmia … one reminding me of SA, t’other of Cornwall – you had such a fun time – cheers Hilary
