We had several hikes. These are just a few of the pictures I took as we walked.

Madeira is famous for its levadas, narrow irrigation channels dating back to the 15th century, created to carry water across the mountainous island from the rainier north-west side to the more arid south-east. There’s one to our left.

We walked to spectacular viewpoint – but a cloud got there first!

…so off we trotted again!

    It definitely looks like a dense jungle. It would be fun to see the banana plantation. Mom has a friend that moved down there, not sure if she likes living there or not.

    I am surprised that Madeira is such a tropical climate—with its ferns and bananas and thick vegetation. I did not know that. Beautiful walk.
