for Rochelle’s Friday Fictioneers photo prompt.

.

.

I thought my garden needed a rockery, so I got a box of rocks, some bags of dirt and few plants. I’d never before set myself a boulder, sorry, bolder challenge!

I cleared a patch and arranged the rocks a pile. They kept tumbling, so I started again.

I made a heap of dirt, and tried inserting the rocks hoping it would look like a mini-mountain. Unfortunately it didn’t.

Hours later I was bruised, cut, filthy and fed up. It was taking for ever, talk about rock around the clock!

In the end I gave up.

Fancy some rocks? Help yourself.

There’s an expression in the UK that goes, ‘mad as a box of frogs’!

That’s what Google’s for: tell you how to do everything just right. 😉

Agrees with Christine. Or, better still, get a landscape gardner in

It is wise to know when to let go of some tasks. Love your artwork of the frog and the earthworm…Excellent.

I am not keen on rock gardens, unless you use large ornamental boulders to stop the weeds growing and spreading.

Google lies! 🙂 I’d love to try my hand at a rock garden one day, though. Fun story, Keith!

He’s blaming you, Dale, it was your photo that gave him the idea!!!

Keith, I could really relate to trying an ambitious project and having it exhaust and then abandoning the idea – and ready to move on – also liked the humor with “rock around the clock” hahaha

This made me smile. My husband built two rock walls when we moved into our current house 28 years ago. He did a darn fine job. Now it’s slumping a bit but we have a local fellow who dashes over and props it up as needed.

    Dear Keith,

Perhaps he can find a You Tube video to help in out. 😉 I guess some are meant to rock while others just to roll.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

I, my wife, and our small granddaughter spend Mondays searching for rocks. My son and daughter-in-law are landscaping. Yes, we fancy some rocks.

That is a fun little story! I can totally see it. A rock garden can be very satisfying once the rocks and dirt are in place. The last line is perfect! Side note- I would love to see what a box of frogs looks like.

Thanks so much – I quite agree, I like rock gardens!

The Americanized version, I believe, is “As dumb as a box of rocks.”

Your story really struck me as funny. I live in an HOA and there’s a group of folks here who are avid, and talented, gardeners and in all their little gardens throughout the place they’ve placed multiple cairns (I have no idea what they’re marking). A day doesn’t go by where I walk past one and see that some of them have toppled over. I’d tell them about your kind offer, but enough is enough!

Your frog illustrations are the best!

This reminds of a story about my dad…hmm maybe I should save it. (lol)Thanks Keith.
