Young lady, come here. We named you Prudence expecting you to become judicious, sensible and sagacious. Your brother Ernest is everything we hoped he’d be, hardworking, determined and diligent.

What happened Prudence? Why the impudence? You show little respect for your father and me. You need to improve your impetuous and imprudent ways

Reverend and Mrs Wise are coming for dinner tonight with their charming son Christian. You need to make a good impression.

Hopefully Chris remembers the ‘holy smokes’ I ordered,  thinks Pru!  .thom

Haha! I always wonder at people’s expectations when they name their kids ones such as these.

Personally, I think they are asking for trouble! Not all will represent as you’ve shown with such flair!

Now that’s a unique take on the prompt! I guess the Puritans were fond of naming children virtues: Charity, Patience, Prudence, etc. No Industrious, though. One long-ago Goodenow was Silence, poor lady.

Naughty or Cheekie would make nice names! Silence? I’d keep quiet about that!

Brilliant! Great fun read and a good message on the power of names. This is not so prevalent today, but way back when names meant a lot to the child as it was their parent’s hope for the child’s future.
