Arthur walked into The Baamy Inn with his arm in a sling, Babs asked what happened and he said that Daisy had kicked him; “Daisy the florist, surely not” said Babs, “no”, Arthur replied, “Daisy my cart horse, you should see my wound, the nurse said my arm was busted, I asked her if I would be able to play my ukelele when it healed and she said I would, which really pleased me, I’ve always wanted to know how to play that darned thing!”
“When my grandaughter broke her arm, I knitted her a sling” said knitting circle Nicola, “she liked it so much she wanted to keep wearing it after her wound had healed, anyway, it gave me an idea, I could knit colourful covers for band aids and bandages, I even offered to knit a cover for Pete the Pirate’s eye patch thinking it would look good but he said he couldn’t see why!”
“Sorry I’m late”, said Ted as he rushed through the door, “I was sure I wound my clock up last night but it seems I didn’t”; “that reminds me”, said Arthur, “Len’s new chef Cheryl was telling that when she was young her parents had a cuckoo clock and as she walked by it at eight o’clock one morning it went cook-you, cook-you instead of cuckoo-cuckoo and because people she cooked for always like what they ate, eight, she saw it a sign and the rest is history!”; “that’s probably why she makes pies with birds in them”, said Babs, “pigeon pie, turkey pie, I wonder if she’s ever baked twenty four blackbirds in a pie!”
Meanwhile over at the knitting circle Wendy was telling them about a fellow she once knew and often saw sitting under tree reading a book when she was walking in the park, they just said hello, nothing more, anyway one day when he wasn’t about she thought she’d woo him by winding some wool awound the willow tree trunk and attach a picture of a heart with their initials in it; “did it work?” asked Polly, “I don’t know” said Wendy, “because the following day I was wandering in the wood when I tripped and grazed my knee, Will who is now my husband walked up to me with his first aid kit – he always carries one, says you never be too careful – he attended to my wound and it went from there”.
“My friend had his wound stitched”, said Colin, “I told him to get well sewn – pigs put oinkment on their wounds – I had an accident playing peek-a-boo, they took me to ICU – I’d recommend not stitching your own wounds but if you insist then suture self – my book about clocks finally arrived, it’s about time – eating clocks is time consuming – Mickey Mouse said his knee hurt, the doctor asked which one and he said ‘Disney’ – it hurts me to say this, I have a sore throat – if it hurts when you pee, urine trouble – “Oy!” Yelled Landlord Len, he didn’t need to yell anything else!
Len has been suffering from wounded pride, for several years The Baaamy Inn has been voted the county’s best pub, but last week it was felled to second position by the The Woodmans Arms; “hasta la vista”, he shouted as he rang the bell, “losing out was nothing more than a temporary setback, the only way is up – actually it’s closing time so right now the only way is out, off you all go, see you soon!”
