Alarm clock rings, hop out of bed, leap in the shower and drag on some clothes.
Coffee too hot, scald my mouth, burn the toast, trip over the cat.
Rush out the door, run down the road, enter the station, jump on a train.
Rush to the office, sit at a desk, stare at a screen and answer the phone.
Nip out for lunch, gobble a snack, back to work, start over again.
Time to go home, stand on the train, pushed and jostled, get off again.
Open the door, pour a drink, collapse on the couch and… breathe!

Such a hectic schedule for this guy. Perhaps he relaxes on the weekend?
I certainly hope so!
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
We call it the rat race for good reason! Love it
Indeed it is, I’m glad it’s behind me now!
Whew! That got me catching my breath.
It even had me puffing and panting!
I was intrigued to notice that you get a story (with rhymes) if you just take the last word of each line
I hadn’t noticed that! Cheers, Neil.
Dear Keith,
I’m winded after reading that one. It makes me so glad to be retired. 😉 Good one.
Shalom,
Rochelle
I got out of breath doing the audio!
Thanks, Rochelle.
another day in the books!
🎶Those were the days my friend, I’m glad they came to an end!
Remind me of the Beatles song, “A Day In the Life.”
I see what you mean! Woke up, fell out of bed, dragged a comb across my head…
Cheers, James.
That’s a lit going on
It sure is!
Keith, I loved your tempo in this. So many live this rat race just to stay even.
Fortunately I never have, I can’t imagine anything worse!
You’re blessed then.
Ah, the tread mill of the daily commute certainly deserves a drink at the end of the day.
I once boarded the Portsmouth to London train, early 0630hrs. The regular commuters were furious since the restaurant carriage had been left behind; not a cup of coffee until Waterloo.
It’s a tedious enough commute with coffee, but without … perish the thought!
I don’t get on a train, but mostly this is me, and how I wish it weren’t.
I know what a busy life you lead Mimi!
I’m tired after reading that! lol. It carries the rhythm of a train going over the tracks.
I needed a lie down after doing the audio!
Ah I remember that! Today apparently the only rush is to change into a clean pair of onesies and park yourself on the sofa with your laptop to liaise with your work colleagues. Your pace left me breathless.
How things have changed. I imagine Zoom calls can be annoying as you have to wear a smartish top half!
I hope you’ve got your breath back, Sandra!
Something tells me he’s not planning to head for the gym this evening.
If this is a Mom, the evenings are “drive Mike to football; drive Susie to ballet; drive Jennie to drama club…”
You are right on every level, Christine! I’m glad I’m retired.
At one point when I was going to school I had to be up before the sun – catching a train into the city then either walking, taking a cab, or a bus to school… underground trains don’t have any good views!
Even as a kid you were a commuter!
When you start out in the city… that – being a commuter – happens 😉
Great pacing. Made me feel like I was chasing the day right along with him!
I hope you kept up! Cheers, Angela.
i can relate. it sounds too familiar. 🙂
Poor you!
A day in the life. Great story.
Breathe…. 😉
