In case

.

.

Why are you taking all those cases? Your’e only going away for a few days!

I need to cover all eventualities. Every single holiday I’ve been on has been ruined because I was missing something I didn’t think to take.

What’s in that case?

Lots of warm clothes from slightly warm to very warm.  A heavy blanket, a hot water bottle and ear muffs. I’ve learned from experience that weather forecasts can be very unreliable.

That case?

Beach stuff. Big towels, small towels, my bucket and spade, a life jacket, water wings, a  lilo, swimming trunks, my mankini, and my budgie-smugglers too, I want to make sure I fit in – fit in with other beachgoers that is, not fit into…you know!

What’s in that case?

Summer clothes. I’ve got colourful stuff, less colourful stuff and plain stuff.  There are short shorts, medium shorts and long shorts plus all kinds of trousers and jeans. I’m fed up with looking scruffy when everyone else is smart, and smart when everyone else is scruffy.

This case?

Well, that’s my formal wear in case there’s a posh night, a dinner dance kinda thing. I’m taking my tuxedo and a selection of waistcoats, or ‘weskits’ as hifalutin folk say, there are several bow ties and shirts, cufflinks, dancing shoes, my Cuban heel shoes, a top hat and white gloves too.

What about that big case?

Nothing. That’s my just-in-case case. I always buy lots of things from great big Toblerones at the airport to souvenirs at the resort; clothes too because there’s always something I need but forget to take.  I have trouble fitting all the extra stuff into my luggage on the way home, so this time I’m taking a spare case … just in case!

Have you checked the airline’s luggage allowance?

No, should I?

I really think you should!

good one, and yes, I’d say check the airline limits, just in case.

Oh this is brilliantly funny, Keith. I love his organisation with each case and they even rhyme too. My dad would approve he always takes a Toblerone on holiday! Great story!

        You’re welcome.
Dad always has a tin of those One by One Toblerone going. He gets a bar for holidaying though. I never get one triangle!

Excellent and totally relatable Keith. Great take on the prompt. I know someone who had a just in case case while travelling…me…LOL!

Good take Keith. I went to NZ for 2 months with a carry on and one suitcase. My brother couldn’t believe it.
When I came back, I had a carry on and two suitcases. As a first class passenger, I was entitled to a carry on and three suitcases. I didn’t get a refund though!

First class, wow! At least you didn’t have to pay a surcharge on the way back!

It was the trip of a lifetime and I was entitled to my retirees discount from the bank, so to travel first class with that was the same as economy without it. I felt like a queen, with a proper bed, sheets, duvet, pillow, proper crockery, napkins and cutlery and extensive menu of three choices of real food, and my own entertainment station.

What a wonderful experience! I fly regularly but I’ve never made it past business class, and that was only due to few upgrades!

LOL … it sounds like he has luggage like Tom Hanks in Joe vs the Volcano! But at least he’ll have everything he needs with him.

I did Europe for 10 weeks with one suitcase. I still can get by with one. Who cares if folks see you in the same outfits???

Me too Chris. I’m not a neat packer, I just cram it in, sit on it and buckle it!

The older I get, the more I pack like Grandma and the less I apologize about it. Fun story!

    Brilliant! Especially the ‘just-in-case case’

Reminds me of when I packed for camping this year. I had to fight the urge to overpack, but I was very pleased with how I not only managed to limit myself to a single dufflebag, but even fit my blanket and pillow in it as well this year. (Last year I had it stuffed full, had a second tote bag of stuff, and then my blanket and pillow separate.) I still could have packed lighter, since I never had to use any of the duplicates of things I brought.

Hahaha a “case” of over packing.

My mom tends to over pack at times although not like this 🤭
