She lives across the road.
We’ve never really met, I’m not sure we ever will.
When I’m alone I light my candle. When she’s alone she lights hers. Occasionally, both our candles are alight together.
We look at each other. We smile, nothing more. We want nothing more, I’m happy with what I have, I’m sure she is too.
She didn’t light her candle yesterday. She didn’t light it the day before. I’ve not seen her at her window for a couple of days. I hope she’s okay.
I’m alone. My candle’s alight. I’m looking across the road but I don’t see her candle. I don’t see her.
I miss her. I hope she’s missing me.
We’ve never really met, I’m not sure we ever will.
Not now.

Thanks to Sadje for hosting What Do You See?

I love this tale of dreaming of friendship created on the whim of a lit candle. I hope she’s still there for him and they meet one day. Well done, Keith.

I hope she just went on vacation for a few days and they meet when she comes back. Nothing big, just become friends from across the street.

So beautiful and touching. He might have missed his chance though.
She’s no longer alone now.

It’s a possibility, if so at least he enjoyed it while it lasted.

Such a tender tale of care for another, even if barely known. I echo Mimi’s hopeful possibility that perhaps she’s on vacation.
