“She’s taking me shopping. I hate shopping.
We’ve been to Peter Baker’s butchery, Fred Fisher’s florists and Flora’s fish shop.
We’re just leaving Betty Book’s bakery. She makes voluptuous viennoiseries, and her bulging buns are legendary!
Ouch, no need for that!
Oh no, we’re going into that odds-and-ends emporium. I don’t need another t-shirt. She’s heading for that goat’s milk body-wash stuff. Why?
Oh, look, by the steps, a Union Jack shopping bag!
Sweetheart, why don’t you buy that bag? No, not that one, nor the one on the left, it’s down there, look…
Oh, never mind.
Where next I wonder”.

Keith, I grew weary just reading about your forced shopping expedition. I hate shopping. Always have.
Sorry about that, Linda! I couldn’t stop yawning as I wrote it!
🙂
I liked the mismatch between the shops’ stock and their owners. Very nice
Thanks so much, Neil!
It is like pure torment to tag along on these shopping treasure hunts isn’t it. I’m not much for it either, and time when I’ve gone on work conferences and the women went shopping and the guys went golfing wasn’t much of a treat :( I love the resigned sound of your voice while reading.
Nice to see a new pic of you at the InLinkz block!
You took me back to my business days! Thank you so much, Lisa.
You’re very welcome.
Nice one, Keith!
Thanks so much!
Dear Keith,
Your MC sounds a lot like my brother on that particular shopping trip. 😉 You have sharp eyes and have written a fun piece.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Oh dear!
Thanks so much, Rochelle.
You’re clever with the names. Shopping is not my thing, except once in so often when I really need a few things, then I get it all done at once and don’t go again for years.
Sounds like a plan!
Another great one, Keith. Personally, I prefer to shop alone…a lifetime ago, it was tedious to look at all the varieties of nuts and bolts, screwdrivers–manual and motorized…you get the picture.
I certainly do, Vee!
However there is an option–maybe you use it sometimes: shopping with whomever, each going their separate way in the store, agreeing to meet at a certain location and time. Everybody’s happy!
Loved the alliteration and the shop names 🙂
I’m pleased, thankyou!
Hilarious names of stores. Why do men hate shopping?
It’s inborn, Sadje!
😂😂😂
I love the names and the baker’s buns, poor guy, no need to hit him so hard, LOL… I don’t like shopping either.
Thanks so much. I felt really sorry for him as the story took shape!
His boredom seeped out of the words here, although at least he found something to get excited about with the bag (and the buns)!
He did, sadly his excitement wasn’t shared!
Some great description going on!
Thanks so much!
shopping can indeed be exhausting. best advice is not to do it in an empty stomach. 🙂
Excellent advice, I’ll bear that in mind!
Great play on the various shops. I always disliked the wandering shopping ritual where you were treated as a child; seen but not heard.
Thank you. Me too, James!
true, shopping can be tedious and even nerve-wrecking
Thank goodness for the coffee shops!
I’m thinking he’d have liked to linger in Betty Book’s Bakery. He’s not a happy shopper. Fun story.
…and I think you’re right Margaret! Thank you.
Such a good partner. I hope she is just as patient when in your favorite shop.
My favourite shop is MenKind, I can spend hours in there – there are always very bored-looking ladies standing outside!
I had to Google it, it looks very entertaining.
“And her bulging buns are legendary!” I was laughing out loud at that one and the goats milk body wash!
Funny story, Keith. Love the clever names and the ending was so typical of men who hate to shop.
Great write!
I’m really pleased you enjoyed my silly little story, Nancy!
Bulging buns are legendary! Great line, fun story! I love shopping especially op shops…but my husband is the best shopper ever. He can outshop me any day. I am truly blessed 🙂
Wow, he is to be admired! I’m delighted to have amused you.
Yes, he’s unique and a keeper! Your stories are delightful, the audio is always spot on too. 🙂
the names of the shops are fun and good eyes spotting that bag. It’s never fun being dragged along on someone else’s shopping expedition.
