Plantfest!

She loves plants. Big ones. Little ones. Giant ones. Miniature ones.

They are everywhere. In her garden. On her patio. In her greenhouse. In this room. In that room. In the other room. Wherever there’s some room in a room.

There are all kinds of plants. Flowering ones. Fruity ones. Vegetable ones.

She takes some with her when she goes out. On her bicycle. In her car. In the brim of her hat. In her…what’s that thing called…her bum bag.

She wins prizes too. Prettiest poppies. Tastiest tomatoes. Tallest tulips. Plumpest pumpkins.

She invited me round the other afternoon for tea. I took her a bunch of flowers. It was a stupid idea. A bit like giving ice to an eskimo!

There were sandwiches. She’d baked a cake. Cooked some scones. Made strawberry jam. Everything was decorated with edible flowers. Until then, the only edible flower I knew was a cauliflower!

Later, she showed around her garden. She pointed to some beautiful blooms. ‘Peonies’ she said. ‘I don’t need a pee right now’, I replied. What an odd thing to suggest.

You’re probably wondering why I’m all telling you this. To be honest so am I, so I’ll leave you with a silly gardening joke.

‘What are you planting Sherlock?’

‘A lemon tree my dear Watson!’

You mean to tell me in all your travels you’ve never eaten the deep fried and delicately stuffed glorious treat of fritelli di zucchine? I guess it’s back to Italy for you! Cauliflower, indeed!

How could I have forgotten? Not only have I eaten stuffed zucchini flowers, but I used to cook them in my restaurant!

Hi Keith – so many edible flowers … but your friend above might have the best idea – though I suspect you’ve had a few … a happy tale to read – cheers HIlary

Indeed I have, they were on the menu at The Stage Door – which, by the way, was on Carlisle Road next to what used to be the Cavalier pub just to clear up the confusion from the other day!

Hi Keith – I’m still somewhat befuddled … but I shall take a look around in the next few weeks and try and ascertain where you’re talking about!! I’m hopeless – not usually, but this time … I’ll have a good look around anon. Sounds like your restaurant was a great place to come across … sad I wasn’t around then -cheers Hilary

I always love your stories and readings. I always click on the graphics you make as they add so much to the story. I enjoy seeing them up close.

Thanks so much, often I spend more time on the graphics than I do the story!

        Two words:
        No. Fricken’. Way.

(Leaning away from computer screen that is nearly glowing with reflected light,
” Honey? Is my three piece sackcloth suit back from the cleaners yet?”)

        Lol
Note to self, ‘Slow dow ..’

Fun story. My mother used to have a lot of plants and she would have loved turning an old bike into a planter.

It’s a lovely idea. I had plants in an old toilet outside my pub!

Peonies indeed. Might have helped the leeks. You know they grow peonies in the hairy pair o’ knees. Good one, Keith.

Hahaha! What fun (of course) and if you don’t know, you don’t know. As long as she wasn’t feeling long-suffering at his lack of knowledge… 😉 A lemon tree… smh!

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 5, 2024 / 11:07

      I don’t, I really don’t! I’m quite pleased I did though!
