For Six Sentence Stories where the given word is Stock

It was the farmer’s Friday night get together at The Baaarmy Inn, but they weren’t having their usually jolly time as Shepherd Sean and Cowman Colin were in a baaaad mooood!
“Why were you driving you tractor in the middle of the night, Colin?” asked Tom, “just doing a bit of ploughin’” he replied, “well you kept me awake” moaned Colin with a harrowed expression; “me too”, shouted Sean, his brow furrowed, ”the whole village could hear you!”
“Calm down or I’ll have to ask to leave, Sean”, shouted Landlord Len taking stock of the situation; “it‘s Mister Ramsbottom to you, Mister…whatever your sirname is!”
“ ‘tother day I saw you shearing your sheep Sean” said one of the ladies from the knitting circle hoping to lighten the mood, “we could be using some of your stuff now, where do get it made into balls?” she asked, “Woollie Willie in Woolcott” he replied with a smile on his face.
Everybody’s gaze was averted as the door crealked open and in marched a group of Morris dancers, the bells around their ankles chiming like a confused carriage clock, “we had enough of their jingles last week” murmured Arthur who’d been quietly observing the goings on from behind his beer tankard, “prancing around bashing their sticks”.
Suddenly there was a snort from the corner of the bar, “have you brought one your pigs Pete?” asked Colin, “no, it was Suzie, she nodded off and just woke up” he replied; “What’s the time?” she asked, “ten thirty five” said Len, “oh no, I’ll be late for work”; ”it’s ten thirty five in the evening, not twenty five to eleven in the mornin’ Suzie!” laughed Arthur!

Wonderful pun fest Keith. Truly enjoyed the ploughin story. I ploughed right through it.
P.S I sense the nod to Plough Monday and ploughing season. Well done.

Well spotted Suzette! Until someone mentioned it in the pub a few days ago I was unaware of it.

So that’s what Morris dancing is. Nice alliterative madness throughout the story. I like how the farmers were in a “baaaad mooood”.

When I ran my village pub, I dreaded the Morris Dancers leaping around in the car park, but it’s all part of country life here!

There’s certainly not, Denise! As for Morris dancers, they date back hundreds of years. You either love them or dislike them, there’s rarely an in-between!

They do. There are several groups in my area, each with a story to tell about their origin.

The English language is so suitable for a clever punster like yourself! Poor Susie may just have slept her job away. I’ve heard of Morris Dancers and had some idea, but it was interesting to see. Looks like a reenactment of medieval jousting.
