“Ere”, said Pirate Pete as he leaned forward, “I saw that brazen hussy Martha Whittaker coming outa’ back alley first thing s’mornin, proper shady she looked”.
“Baaa, that’s a load of dung ya’ silly ole codger” shouted Flirty Flossy the barmaid from the other end of the room, “oh no, I see’d it with me own two eyes” he shouted back; “you’ve only got one eye Pete, ‘tother one’s hidden under your eye patch” mocked Leonard the landlord.
Walter laughed, Colin laughed, Pete cursed, Solomon reached for his tankard and fiddled nervously with a hair sprouting from the mole on his cheek.
“Be that as it may, I know what I saw and it looks a bit ‘spicious ta’ me” insisted Pete.
“Was that the alley that leads to Solomon’s cottage?” asked Gertrude the Gossip who was sitting two tables away with her knitting cronies, aka the Knitwits, “I reckon she’s been jingling his bells and I don’t just mean the one on his door!”
Everybody in the bar turned towards Solomon, and so it went on, for it was just another Friday night at the Baaamy Inn!

Thanks to Denise at GirlieOnTheEdge for hosting.

It sounds like Solomon’s secret has been public knowledge for some time. I like how the “knitting cronies” were called “Knitwits”.
Thanks, Frank, I think he has a bit of a reputation!
More than just jingles from Solomon, eh?🎶😆
Oh yes!
That cat is out of the bag! Or is it??
I imagine stories are retold and embellished at a quite rapid rate at the Baaamy Inn!
Looking forward to next installment, Keith.
A bit like Chinese whispers! I heard some amazing stories when I was a pub landlord!
Nice foreshadowing* with “…he fiddled nervously with a hair sprouting from the mole on his cheek.”
*yeah, even in as compact a form as a Six Sentence Story, I try to spot the tricks of the craft
Thanks for your generous words!
Sounds like just another night at the pub!)
Indeed it was, and there are plenty more to come!
always something funny going on )
Haha! Good one Keith.
Thanks so much, Sadje!
You’re always welcome
People will talk, won’t they.
So true. The more they drink, the more they talk!
She was jingling the bells on the window, not the door 😁
