…for Rochelle’s Friday Fictioneers photo prompt.
.

My muse is a messy minx, she leaves words and sentences scattered all over my desk. Yesterday I decided it was time to have a tidy up. Whilst I was pleased with the result, I’ve a feeling she was not!
I sat myself down this morning, took a look at Rochelle’s photo prompt then invited my muse to come up with a story, but she was nowhere to be found. She’s such a moody miss!
Consequently, (that’s long word for me without her help) I’m having to repost a tale I told at Friday Fictioneers six years ago.
Oh, I’ve just written ninety-eight words all on my own! That wasn’t my story though.
This is!
.

Let me read it to you.
.
I left flowers on her desk. I didn’t leave a note. They’re her favourites so she’ll know they’re from me, and she’ll get the message without me spelling it out.
They’ll probably end up in the bin though. She accused me of something, said she had proof. I tried to persuaded her it was nonsense. I felt guilty afterwards. Not for what I did, he deserved it, but for denying it.
So I left flowers on her desk. Her favourites. Well, I could hardly take them to his funeral, could I? Anyway, I’ll be miles away by then.

Intriguingly darker and more psychological than usual, Keith
Thanks, Neil. They do say that a change is as good as a rest!
You got my head spinning on that one.
I hope you are sitting down!
He’d better run fast. Great story, Keith.
Best wishes,
Rowena
Too right, everyone knows now! Thanks, Rowena.
Yes, sometimes it’s best to leave the clutter for the Muse to sift through…
Your story “Guilty” is a thriller-mystery well told in a few words. Excellent twice-told tale.
Too right, I won’t do that again!
Pleased you liked my mini-tale, thanks, Suzette.
Always a pleasure Keith!
I hadn’t read this one before. A very clever plot.
Really nice of you, Sadje, thank you!
You’re most welcome
Loved the story, Keith – lots to ponder there. And I feel for you in the absence of the muse. Mine was here today, just scatterbrained and chatty. I had to tie her down in the end to just one story. She didn’t like that.
Haha, I bet she didn’t! She did you proud though! Thanks so much.
As you can now see, your much-appreciated comment did appear! If the muse isn’t playing up, then WordPress is!
Ooh!
Ooh, indeed!
Nice little twist there, Keith. They’re so much fun to do!
They are! Thanks, Nancy.
Well, here I had myself all set for some punny words and whimsical thoughts–and what did I get? A murderer! And one who seems accustomed to running away after the deed. Chilling.
Thanks, Linda. My punny words and whimsical thoughts have been given a few days off!
I guess they deserve a break 🙂
Dear Keith,
Truly, your intro and your actual story work with the prompt. 😉 When we’ve written so many stories, an occasional rerun comes in handy for the times the muse is being oppositional. Nicely done. Twice.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thanks, Rochelle. I have 17 years worth of stories behind me and I often think some deserve another outing!
Sinister stuff, must have been in your gothic period 6 years ago!
Those were the days, my friend!
I hardly think flowers will be an adequate apology under the circumstances. Well told!
Nor me, thanks, Mimi.
I like the ending 🙂 You got me at funeral. I’m sure she will forgive him.
Thanks so much, maybe, maybe not!
Your ending are always great.
Nice of you to say so, thank you!
You’re welcome!
Cleverly crafted!
Thanks so much, Reena.
Awesome story! And I loved the 98 word version as well 🙂
Kind of you to say so, Dahlia, thank you!
Dark words this time. Well done.
Thanks, I thought it would make a change!
KEITH, I’M SORRY & I HAVE NO IDEA HOW IT’S HAPPENING, BUT SO FAR IT’S BEEN THREE PEOPLE… I’M GETTING ALL THEIR EMAIL AT MY GMAIL… I’VE WRITTEN THEM WHEN I STARTED GETTING ALL OF SANDEE’S & NOW I’M GETTING YOURS & ONE HAND CLAPPING (John)… I’M WRITING THEM AGAIN TONIGHT, BUT I THOUGHT YOU’D LIKE TO KNOW… COME BY MY GMAIL & YOU’LL SEE & I CAN OPEN THEM FOR YOU OR FORWARD THEM… OR DELETE… IT’S A PAIN CUZ GMAIL… HASN’T ANSWERED ME YET!!! IF YOU WANT THE ADDRESS I CAN’T GIVE IT TO YOU & YOU CAN WRITE THEM TOO! I JUST DON’T GET IT… LET ME KNOW. HUGS MARIE aka Xmasdolly
Marie, I’ve no idea what’s happening there. I don’t actually use my Gmail account any more!
what a twist in the end. totally unexpected.
Gotcha! Cheers, plaridel.
And that’s just the kind of rationalizing a stalker/killer would use. Well done, Keith. I hope they catch up with him sooner rather than later.
Time will tell! Thank you, Lisa.
You’re welcome, Keith.
A little dark humor today?
Okay. A good write.
Just for a change! Thanks, Dawn
Keith this week you have struck an interesting trope. The length and trouble some men go to just to impress and please women know no limits. But then again, perhaps she ordered the murder!
That could, of course, be a possibility but even I don’t have a clue!
A murder mystery. They say people only commit murder for three things – love, power, or money. Sounds like this one was for the first.
Absolutely so Will, although he did go to extreme lengths to prove it.
Nice use of the flowers and all they can symbolise. It’s interesting that he feels guilty for lying but not for the dastardly deed he’s committed. Intriguing situation. Love the twist at the end.
Thanks, Margaret, he felt he did the right thing even though she didn’t.
Oooo creepy one this one, Keith
Love the darker tone from you. Such a twist.
Thanks, Laurie, it’s good to go to the dark side now and again!
That story was well worth resurrecting!
Thanks so much, Liz.
