It’s karaoke night at the Sing Inn where Landlady Polly is busy selling her homemade earplugs over the bar, and tonight they are saving the best ‘til last, me, and I‘m going to treat you to an extract from the opera Tosca, E Lucevan le Stelle, an embodiment of mortality; I bet you can’t wait!
Pretty Poppy Perkins is up first, she has the voice of an angel and sometimes sings ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’ beautifully, so sit back, close your eyes, and here we go …‘Like a bat out of hell I’ll be gone when the morning comes….
Oh look, here comes Digger Hole, he works at the cemetery, he’s wearing a very grave expression, ha-ha, and he’s off… ‘and now, the end is near, and so I face….’
It’s lucky dip time when a singer’s name is plucked from one hat, and the title of a song from another – oh no, Old Bill the retired cop is singing Maggie May, wake up Bill, the backing track’s started… ‘maybe I’m amazed at the way you love me all the time…’, wrong song Bill, as usual.
Next up, Falsetto Fred. who usually tries to yodel his way through The Lonely Goatherd but hopefully he won’t tonight… ‘High on a hill was a lonely goatherd, lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo…’
Oh no, I’ve reached my sixth sentence, so you won’t be able to hear me sing, I’m really sorry!

Too right, Beth!
Haha! Great rendition of the songs.

I try to be thoughtful and kind so never sing solos in public.
How considerate!
FANTASTIC!! You had me laughing so loudly, my husband came in from the other room to see what was going on. You are too funny, Keith. Great job! 😂
…and you are too kind, Nancy, thank you!
I loved hearing you read the story, and I also laughed out loud! As an American, I loved listening to your cool accent! Such wonderful expression, too. Thanks for the treat!
I can’t thank you enough! I took loads of takes to get it right, so I’m pleased my time wasn’t wasted!
Ha!
That’ll do nicely, Di!
🙂
Sounds like perfect Karaoke to me, song bits and bobs making up the words etc. So sorry we did not hear you sing, but you did the other singers justice in your audio, singing their tunes.. just like in Karaoke…actually. Nicely done Keith.
I didn’t want to show the other singers up with my vocal expertise (I wish)! Thanks, Suzette.
So talented and gracious too, thank you Keith.
Well done audio! I like Landlady Polly’s side business of selling homemade earplugs.
Thanks, Frank, essential equipment on karaoke night!
Ah, well, maybe next time.
Fun six!
Be careful what you wish for!
What does it say about us Readers that the audio tracks roll as we read the individual lyrics?*
* compliments on including the song from Mr. Loaf
I wonder!
* I thought I’d bring a bit of Meat to the party!
I wanted to hear you sing, Keith 😄.
You got me on this part, “he’s wearing a very grave expression” hahaha
One day maybe! Singing his song was quite an undertaking!
Thanks so much, Maria.
Such fun!
I’m pleased you liked it, thanks Chris.
Bet Landlady Polly took in a decent haul from the sale of those ear plugs on Karaoke Night, lol.
Saved by the Six, Keith? Maybe we’ll hear you next time!
I’m sure she did. Me, sing? Stranger things have been heard!
