A short story for The Unicorn Challenge which is hosted by her and him, Jenne Gray and C.E.Ayr.
.
A recorded voice bellowed from a loudspeaker as he entered the tunnel.
‘Turn now…turn now…turn now’
Still, he marched forward, machete in hand.
‘Restricted area…restricted area…restricted area’.
Left, right, left, right, nothing was going to stop him from advancing, nothing.
‘Stop or be killed…stop or be killed…stop or be killed’.
His footsteps echoed as he forged ahead.
Suddenly, there was a thunderous roar as a hail of bullets flew in his direction. Undaunted, he carried on, rapidly sweeping the machete up and down, round and round. Dazzling sparks flashed this way and that as the missiles struck its glistening steel blade and then ricocheted, taking their toll on his horror-stricken foe.
Wiping the weapon on his sleeve, he stepped over its lifeless body and spat in its face as he continued on his way.
A spine-chilling laugh reverberated around the tunnel, at first from behind, then from ahead, then from above, then…there was a bloodcurdling scream as the tunnel plunged into darkness.
What happened at that moment is not for me to say. But be warned, under no circumstances should you try entering the tunnel.
I’ll only tell you once.

I hear ya. Not going anywhere near that tunnel
Very wise, Patricia!
I won’t! I WON’T!
Okay, I hear ya!
Oh good, because I’ll only say it this once. 😉
Eeeeeekkkkk!!!
Very eeekie!
You stike fear on our hearts, Keith!
And your narrator comes from the same school as my mother: ‘I’ll only tell you once’!
And PS Waddaya mean, ‘It’s only me.’ What is this ‘only’? Begone, dull word!
I trust your mother didn’t go to such extreme lengths to get her message across!
Haha, I’ll send ‘only’ to the recycling bin!
Ok!
I’m closing the app!
Lol
Engaging action.
Which is I suspect is more difficult than it appears.
There’s action (guns and bullets an such) and there is the intriguing character.
One without the is just noise or quiet reflection.
You’ve balanced them quite effectively.
Nice!
Very wise, you can’t be too careful! Thanks so much for your generous words, Clark.
It’s better to heed the warning, especially when in a spooky place. Nicely done Keith!
I could’nt agree more, Suzette!
Some folk just cannae take a telling, eh, Keith?
Are you not supposed to say ‘Listen very carefully’ before ‘I’ll only tell you once’ ?
If I’d known it was Michele I would have kept clear, what-a mistake-a to make-a!
Oh good God, Keith!
Oh good God, Keith! You had me at the first hail of bullets! 😅😉
