for Six Sentence Stories where the given word is Petrichor

What is that dreadful smell, something really honks, where’s it coming from?

Not the garden, I stuck my nose in the roses, the pond smelt more pleasant than pungent, and the wet grass had a pleasing petrichor.

I’ve checked the cupboard, sniffed inside the fridge,  shoved the dog outside (he’s known as the Fartmaster!) and even checked my armpits, but I just can’t work out what it is, it’s absolutely rank.

I dropped onto all-fours and tested the carpet, crawled up the stairs and into the bedroom where the wardrobe was whiffless and the shoes had the wrong pong, then into the bathroom where I stuck my head down the loo, accidentally flushing it (my hair needed a wash), but the water closet wasn’t the culprit!

I tried flapping a tea tray,  sprayed an aerosol, lit a vanilla-infused candle, warmed up a spicy curry (I love the smell of a vindaloo, don’t you?) chucked the Fartmaster’s basket out the back door, brewed a pot of coffee (Colombian, my favourite) and even played Britney Spears “Perfume” all to no avail.

If you are expecting a fragrant end to this tarradiddle I’m about to disappoint you, and should this disgusting odour infiltrate your pc/laptop/tablet/phone, I can only apologise on its behalf, whatever it is!

    Lol! A wonderful tale, Keith. Love the dog’s pseudonym…haha.
    Thanks for the ending…I could not guess what the smell could be; but, it seems to me… if I may add my two cents –You certainly covered all the bases with your scents of smell.

    P.S. I am glad there was no shampoo in that mishap checking the toilet bowl!

    Oh no, what a picture! I was rooting for the kitchen sink drain as the source. This is a story worth another chapter. Adding “something really honks” to my vocabulary now.
