For Wordless Wednesday on a Tuesday and bloghops various.

A few miles along the coast for me is Eastbourne, a seaside town that holds the record for the most hours of sunshine in England – although it failed to live up to its reputation when I took these photos yesterday!
I started with a walk along the pier.

Hi Keith – thanks for highlighting ‘my town’ – excellent photos you’ve given it. I expect you remember the gilding was thought to be OTT but when the records were researched – the Victorians had gilded those architectural pieces – so the ‘gaudiness’ stayed: much to many locals dislike, I suppose they’d got used to the battleship grey … I thought you were going to carry on up to the Downs – but no – halted at the Wheel. Cheers Hilary

It’s partly my town too having lived on Silverdale Road for many years and running my bistro on Carlisle Road! I don’t have a problem with the gaudiness, although it could do with a bit of touching up at the moment! Downs another day!

Gosh Keith – I’d forgotten that Silverdale Road connection, and the bistro on Carlisle Road – so almost home from home for you … today would have been a great day to be up on the Downs – at least it’s warmer … cheers Hilary

Stunning! I especially loved seeing the Victorian Tea Room.
Thanks for taking us along on your stroll, Keith!
My grandmother was the chief baker for a very famous restaurant here in NY called the Russian Tea Room; perhaps you’ve heard of it.

Another blogger, the Georgia Girl with an English Heart, has shown pictures of this pier, but never from on the pier. It’s as beautiful as i thought it would be.

Thanks, Mimi. I just checked out her blog, and there’s quite a bit about Eastbourne and even a mention of my town, Bexhill-on-Sea!!

What’s the story behind the concrete on display? Are they a memorial or just art?

It is art, although it might not be to everyone’s taste!

Love those piers. Mom used to go to Brighton and they had a nice pier. Great photos.

Looks lovely. I have been on Brighton Pier but not Eastbourne. Your photos reminded me of when we stayed at a bed and breakfast, I think it was Upper Dicker or in that area. The owners asked if we saw the house nearby with the big painted golden lions at the entrance. He said they had also had the lions on Eastbourne pier painted gold and everyone was up in arms about it. Having seen them from your photos I think the gold is very fitting for them.
