It was something of a tradition in our family. On Sundays, we’d go to our grandparents for what Granny called her musical soirée, although she pronounced it ‘sweary’ which always amused us kids!
Grandad would tinkle the ivories of his out-of-tune ‘piana’, his spindly fingers resembling twitching bird’s talons. Little sister Lucy would toot her flute and big brother Billy, hoot his horn.
I wasn’t particularly musical so when I was given something to play I’d just wing it and hope nobody noticed!
Our cousin Crispin sometimes came along with his violin. He was a little posher than us, a bit of a twit too. He was certainly better with his violin bow than he was with a bow and arrow, he recently got into trouble at his exclusive school when he punctured one of his headmaster’s tyres!
The session always ended with our country bumpkin uncle, Farmer Fred, singing his favourite song in his own inimitable way…
‘Owl be seein’ you in owl vee owl familily places….’

What a hoot Keith! Well done. Hoo doesn’t love an owl story well told. I ‘m talon you!
Haha, hoohoo indeed! Thanks, Suzette.
Lol!!
Hilarious and wonderful
Thanks once again, Beth!
well done and enjoyed your audio track my friend
Thanks, I’m so pleased you liked it!
🙂
I’m not telling what I was doing every Sunday (morning and evening) until I was old enough and brave enough to “flew/flee the coop”. Certainly wasn’t nearly as much fun as your delightful story.
Oh, go on, I bet it was! I won’t tell a soul…
I may have folded my hands but I didn’t close my eyes.
Sounds like a fun way to spend Sundays.
My thoughts too!
Great Keith owls are indeed cool – this bit was my favourite ‘ a bit of a twit too’ – clever 😅
Mine too Angela! Thanks so much.
A very enjoyable read. Nice family. No one has a cousin called Crispin:)
Haha, I can’t say I’ve ever met one, but it is a name! Thanks so much, Rall
Nice writing Keith, put a smile on my face! 🙂🐰🐣✌🏼🫶🏼
I hoped it might! Thanks, Rob.
Heeheehee! Your puns never fail to amuse.
There are plenty more where they came from!
A fun read, Keith. It made me wonder if you still have Sundays with family.
I hope your Easter was happy. We were at church, then had the afternoon for lunch with our daughter and her family.
..
Hi Jim, it sounds like you had a perfect Easter day! My family is well scattered and my mother is no longer with us, so no, I didn’t get to see anyone but it didn’t stop me from celebrating in my own way!
It sounds like you have rich material for a memoir, kiddo. Smiles. I loved this.
A fictional memoir quite possibly! Cheers, Sherry!
Well, dear Fred Farmer… May his memory be a blessing. And yeah I know a Crispin who plays a mean fiddle!
Mark, fancy meeting you here!
Not the most talented bunch but I’m sure they had fun. 🙂
That’s what matters!
P.s.: Amazing! I can Like your replies again. The WP gremlins must have been re-booted. 🙂
You never cease to amaze and amuse us with your stories! That’s one of my favorite old songs, too, always pulls at the heart strings. Fun post!
It is a classic, but I’m not sure it sounds quite so good with Crispin’s violin strings!
Another bit of whimsical wonder!!! I was the flute-tooter in our family.
Thanks, Helen, I’m sure you tooted triumphantly!
Always such a joy to listen to your stories Keith! I loved this so! My mom was able to play many instruments. The rest of us just watched. 😁
Thanks once again for your kind words, Carrie. I play a few instruments, fairly badly and by ear, but it’s the thought that counts!
Bravo!!! Nice one Keith.
Happy you dropped by my blog
Much💖love
‘owl you need is a familia of musicians. 🙂
Nice one, the rest more than made up for your lack of interest.
Gran sounds lovely. <3
This is hilarious, and quite clever, Keith!
