‘Look, Daddy, the fairies are back! They are dancing round and round’
She often saw them, but all I could see was a ring of mushrooms in the grass.
I never told her.
Maria was born poorly. Unable to walk unaided, she would sit for hours on end, reading, singing, imagining, and talking to fairies.
We knew her life would be short, but the end came far sooner than we expected.
A career change meant we had to move to another area. We had a local potter make us some colourful mushrooms to place on the lawn in memory of our precious daughter.
Some mornings when I draw back the curtains I see fairies dancing round and round and the prettiest of all is Maria.

I loved it then Keith.

Oh, my! I have a large lump in my throat that won’t go away and my eyes are welling up a bit. Must be allergies; excuse me while I freshen up. 🧚🏼♂️ 🍄
