A hundred words…

I thought it might be nice to camp in the wood.

I’d commune with nature. Well most of nature, I’m not keen on spiders, ants, or creepy crawlies.

I wanted a tent that blended with the surroundings, but camouflaged ones are hard to find.

If you think assembling an IKEA Billybollybottyboo is difficult you should try erecting a tent!

I managed it eventually but then I had trouble finding the way in. Once in I couldn’t find the way out.

What to do? No wifi, no phone signal.

*

I thought it might be nice to stay in a luxury hotel.

    A sensible choice, Keith

Camping not for him it seems, although I dare say they sound like the sort of person who might make a disaster of the luxury hotel too!

I’m all for staying at a nice hotel 😀

Despite what I wrote, I’m actually a serial camper and keep my tent and gear permanently in my car so I can take off at a moment’s notice! Hotels are nice too!

      • Sadje's avatar Sadje October 28, 2022 / 10:45

I know for you often write about going camping. But I prefer a nice hotel with an attached bath.

Hurray for hotels! mind you, a camper gets in on a lot of adventure. Yesterday I reread RD Lawrence’s meeting with “Matilda” the skunk beside a wilderness lake when she tried crawling into his tent in the night. They got along well once they understood each other. 🙂

I’ve had many a visitor in my tent, from spiders to mice but never anything like that!

Nicely done Keith! Honestly, I conifer you a discount on camping puns, but I don’t want to invade your personal spruce.

  6. Patricia's avatar Patricia October 26, 2022 / 18:18

No tents and camping for me! I like a comfy bed at night and a hot shower in the morning.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings October 28, 2022 / 10:50

Heaven for me is a tent in a field with just a tap and a chemical toilet!

  7. msjadeli's avatar msjadeli October 26, 2022 / 20:47

Any time I’ve agreed to sleep in a tent it sounded like a good idea at the time, but… Nice hotel anytime. Cute graphic, Keith.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings October 28, 2022 / 10:53

Haha, my piece is pure fiction as my tent is actually my best friend and my travelling companion!

      • msjadeli's avatar msjadeli October 28, 2022 / 18:07

        Awesome!

I’m with you, luxury hotel for me.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings October 28, 2022 / 10:54

According to the comments thus far, hotels are winning!

  9. Tessa's avatar Tessa October 26, 2022 / 21:08

We started out in a pup tent, then a larger tent, then a trailer pulled behind the motorcycle, and then an old pop up we got super cheap since it leaked, but we fixed it up as well as we could. It kept most of the storm off of us. Then we moved to a small pull-along travel trailer, and then came the big one with full air conditioning, heater, refrigerator, working bathroom with a shower and a queen size bed, plus all the other sleeping spots for the kids, and then came the divorce and it was the first thing to go.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings October 28, 2022 / 10:58

Tessa, that’s brilliant, a complete story in a comment! After years of using a tent that I had to crawl in and out of, I treated myself to one I can almost stand up in last year!

      • Tessa's avatar Tessa October 30, 2022 / 19:43

        Thanks Keith!

  10. Alicia Jamtaas's avatar Alicia Jamtaas October 26, 2022 / 22:08

I truly love camping. A wood fire to cook Top Ramen, some candles. It’s just my cup of tea.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings October 28, 2022 / 11:02

Hoorah, at last, fellow camper. As well as the above I always take a large potted sunflower to keep me company!

      • Alicia Jamtaas's avatar Alicia Jamtaas October 28, 2022 / 22:05

Oh! I never thought about a potted sunflower. How delightful!

    Dear Keith,

My mother’s idea of camping was to open a window when the weather was nice. But then it’s common knowledge that Jews don’t camp. 😉 (Actually untrue).
My dad used to say that when he was in the army the cold was intense and it was cold outside the the tents as well. Guess you could say he was a punnery sargent. Tee hee.
Always love your stories and your readings.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings October 28, 2022 / 11:05

Thanks for your delightful comment Rochelle! Your dad deserves promotion for that brilliant pun!

  12. Bill's avatar Bill October 27, 2022 / 04:59

Right, Keith. Even glamping is too rough for me these days. Well done.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings October 28, 2022 / 11:08

Surely not Bill! As I’ve said up there, I actually love camping, especially wild camping which is the opposite of glamping!

      • Bill's avatar Bill October 29, 2022 / 04:44

My roughing days are in the past. 🙂

I agree, I’ll have to take him with me on my next camping trip!

  14. dorahak's avatar dorahak October 27, 2022 / 17:43

Another good one, Keith. Nothing like camping to make you appreciate the comforts of a luxury hotel!

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings October 28, 2022 / 11:11

They couldn’t be more different! Thanks, Dora.

I’m not sure unless there’s a hotel in sight!

  16. Bear's avatar Bear October 27, 2022 / 20:07

After that experience, a hotel would be most welcome, no doubt. LOL! Loved this.

      • Bear's avatar Bear October 28, 2022 / 19:36

        definitely.

  17. Patricia Clair's avatar Patricia Clair October 27, 2022 / 21:12

There is something about those luxury hotels. It might be the luxury.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings October 28, 2022 / 11:23

Oh dear, I really should have left a footnote reminding readers it was fiction – I adore camping!

    I think I’d prefer a hotel too

  22. susanrouchard's avatar susanrouchard October 28, 2022 / 10:35

An entertainingly funny tale! My husband and I do enjoy camping, fresh air and nice views, but my daughter is like your character. She would be looking for the luxury hotel. We balance each other out. 🙂

Oh dear, it seems technology has ruined both romance and adventure. At least there are hot showers in the hotel.

  26. subroto's avatar subroto October 30, 2022 / 14:31

Fun story. Assembling an Ikea tent will be enough to seek a furnished hotel.

  27. Na'ama Yehuda's avatar Na'ama Yehuda October 31, 2022 / 17:38

True. Though a friend of mine who used to work in hospitality (i.e. management level at a luxury hotel), told me that living in a tent is probably ultimately cleaner … (oy!)

  28. authorfleurl's avatar authorfleurl November 1, 2022 / 05:37

A fun story and I can relate. As much as I love camping, I do not like the tent erecting process. Posh is nice but rustic is also fun. So long as the weather is nice and the bugs stay away!
