a39373c1_oWith Easter gone, my friend Rosey’s favourite school term begins, for soon it will be time for her class of nine and ten-year-olds to take part in the annual May Fair!

Each year, parents and friends meet at the school sports field to watch the May Queen being crowned, listen to the choir singing and enjoy the various games and other attractions.

The highlight of the proceedings however is the Maypole Dancing and for some bizarre reason, Rosey was put in charge last year and had to guide the youngsters through the two or three routines they were to perform.

The big moment arrived and as the music started, Rosey began shouting instructions to the skipping kids; this way, that way, under, over, she yelled!

Unfortunately, Rosey sometimes has difficulty differentiating between left and right, so it will come as no surprise to learn that the kids got tangled up and tied in knots!

Needless to say, she’s relieved of that particular responsibility this year and will instead be in charge of pouring cups of tea and handing out cupcakes, what could possibly go wrong with that?

In case you are unaware My friend Rosey is a teacher’s assistant at primary school.  She’s been a feature of my blog for about 12 years and 40 or so of the many stories I’ve written about her can be found HERE!

I think she’d do just fine with tea and cupcakes. 😂😂😂

I remember a guy who pressed the “Close” button in the elevator instead of “Open” ><. A narrow escape for someone who was stepping out 🙂

    damn! what an enjoyable Six.
Something in your writing that pencil-sketched the scene, like a 1980s music video. all fluid action yet still personal
    cool

My goodness, how the memories come flooding back… c.1973 Poppleton, N Yorks, I was a-dancin’ round the maypole on the village green (we practiced in the church hall for weeks!!).

That was a while ago! The Mayfair is still a big event in my town every year, and I’ll be there on Sunday!

Thanks so much. I did in fact self-publish a little book of Rosey stories about 10 years ago and it did reasonably well. I have been thinking of doing another one. We’ll see!

Left and right is often a mystery to me as well. I am glad to hear Rosie was assigned something she could handle.

Oh dear, I could imagine the scene and the tangles. I know some friends who like Rosie couldn’t differentiate between left and right. Headache for them when someone is giving direction when they are the drivers.

That is what one might call a “loaded” question, lol. Time will assuredly tell!

    How as the Mayfair, Keith?!
