for Sadje’s What Do You See prompt.
.
They’d been dating for years. One of those couples that were made for each other. They’d talked about making it official, but Jimmy never seemed very keen, so Jane avoided the subject but lived in hope!
It was her birthday. Every year Jimmy surprised her with something special; surely today would be the day she’d been waiting for!
It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm. Jane was sure it was a good sign! He’d arranged a picnic, but he must have something other than sandwiches and cake up his sleeve!
They strolled hand in hand to the park. Beside the glistening lake, they sat on a blanket sprinkled with rose petals. A dove lovingly cooed from a nearby tree, and a pair of swans floated towards them and faced each other, their graceful necks forming a heart. He unpacked a bottle of champagne and two glasses. Jane could hardly contain her excitement.
“Close your eyes,” said Jimmy, “and hold out your hand”.
He gently turned it then raised one of her fingers. She felt him place something upon it.
“Surprise” he shouted. Jane opened her eyes to find herself wearing a doughnut!
“Well, at least smile,” said Jimmy, “they’re your favourites!”
That was almost a year ago. She’s still waiting, still hoping. It’s her birthday again next week. She’s already getting excited!

Oh, the frustration! Will Jimmy pop the question this year? 🍩

Interesting take on the pic. Does the young man have a domineering mother? In real life I had two co-workers who both waited for years to get asked “the question” and eventually both did. They both were dating men whose mother did not want them to leave her.

That hadn’t occurred to me, maybe he has! Your colleagues got there in the end, hopefully, Jane will too!

Ah the cad! But then, she’s not necessarily the brightest bulb either! 😂 Well done in building up to the suspenseful moment of “truth” – who knows what might happen this time!

He’ll probably take her to a swimming pool and give her a rubber ring! Thanks so much.

I know which way I prefer to use doughnuts, and it’s not that one! Cheers Mason.

Indeed, thats not what she meant when she said “Put a ring on it.”
Cheers, Keith.

Jane, pop the question yourself or move on. Either way, you’ll get your answer as to whether he means it.

She’s a traditionalist! Actually, that being so, she’ll be able to do that on the next Leap Year Day, February 29 2024!
