As the faithful few conclude their random rendition of All Things Bright and Beautiful, Miss Pargiter relaxes having endured another battle with the wheezing organ.

The Reverend Caruthers surveys the congregation which sits, braced in nervous anticipation.

“Beware the temptations of the flesh” he hisses. Then yells, spitting like a venomous snake. “Fornication, drunkenness; let not Satan determine your destiny. The wages of sin are DEATH!”

Farmer Fred shrinks whilst Postmistress Poppy’s cheeks glow crimson.

When the pointing, thumping, and ranting subsides, Miss Pargiter valiantly attempts to accompany the final hymn, Peace Perfect Peace.

If I had the courage I’d point that out to him! But I’m sure he’d fire back with another quotation!

Oh, dear. While i guess a good “fire and brimstone” sermon is needed on occasion, i can’t see where a steady diet of such does a whole lot of good.

Oh dear… She has a “Miss” in front of her name… she should be free and clear to allow temptation into her life… I bet Farmer Fred also is…
