A tail …

For Friday Fictioneers

My story today is a severely trimmed-down version of one I wrote four years ago which went pretty well un-noticed! Second time lucky?

I was wandering along the beach when I met Fisherman Fred carrying a bucket.

‘Look’ he said. In the bucket was a baby, waist-deep in water. Then I noticed it had a tail!

‘A merbabe’ I exclaimed ‘Where did you find her..him..err…it?

‘Flapping around looking lost’ he said. ‘Should I take it to a children’s home or an aquarium’?

‘How about I pop it in my pond?’ I suggested.

‘Wake up sleepy-head’ someone said, prodding me.

‘Oh, I nodded off. You won’t believe the ridiculous dream I had. Fisherman Fred found a merbabe!’

‘How exciting’ said my girlfriend, flapping her tail.
