I don’t like parties. I usually just stand alone, nibbling food, and sipping warm wine. But this time, I was determined to enjoy myself.
Grabbing an unsuspecting girl’s hand I swept her into the midst of the dancing revellers. Unfortunately, she slipped from my grasp, flew across the room and collided with a food-laden table.
I decided to slip away. As I tiptoed to the front door a latecomer barged it open unaware I was standing there, smashing my nose and the glass in the process.
I don’t like hospitals, especially when the young lady sitting beside me is covered in food and nursing a broken wrist.

Friday Fictioneers is hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo is from Dale Rogerson

Oops
I couldn’t put it better myself!
D’you know, Keith, somehow this sounds too like you to be fiction…
Oh dear, is it that obvious?
Laughing.
Um, er…
Oh no! What a last line to cap a disastrous evening. 🙂
Susan A Eames at
Travel, Fiction and Photos
One of those evenings! Cheers Susan.
I would venture a guess that this is close to what really happened… party – check, young men horsing around – check Ooops. – check.
Checkity-boo! I think you are bang on Dale.
Oops, it sounds even worse than Peter Seller’s experience at a party, though hopefully less racist….
‘Not now Cato!’ Cheers Trent.
If you’ve never seen the movie “The Party”, it is pretty wild, though it uses ever negative Indian stereotype in Peter Seller’s character imaginable – I guess he is a kind of Indian version of Inspector Clouseau, but even more bumbling.
I’ve not – now I must!
Gee I laughed !!! great stuff within 100 words. so much happened 🙂 more of this kind of stuff thanks, ordinary life is so bloody lacking in humor.
Just lately I’ve been doing light hearted pieces simply because they seem to be few and far between of late. So there will be more. Thank you so much for your kind words Frankie
And then everyone at the party will be there to remind him about this night for the rest of his life…
You are probably right! Cheers Iain.
An unforgettable moment for them both, I’m sure. I don’t think they’ll be exchanging numbers 🙂
I’d like to think so! Thanks so much
A very clever story! Like Trent, it reminds me of a Peter Seller’s scene. Oops indeed!
…now you come to mention it!
I am smiling again, thank you Keith…
I’m pleased! Thanks Michael
I probably shouldn’t laugh, but this is funny Keith.
Oh, go on!
ok…………. chortle, chortle!!!!
This made me laugh and warmed my heart at the same time. Well done, Keith
Mission accomplished! Thanks Alicia
Oops! Love it. Please write a novel. 🙂
I’m thinking about it! Cheers Sascha
You seem to be having a bad time. You are a serious introvert and uncomfortable in a big gathering.
Fortunately it’s pure fiction!
Dear Keith,
Why is it we laugh at the misfortunes of others. Yeah. I’m laughing. 😀 Good one.
Shalom,
Rochelle
We should also laugh at our own misfortunes! Thanks Rochelle.
I consider myself to be my own anecdote. If you can’t laugh at yourself, than whom?
Indeed!
you’re not a cheap date are ya?
I don’t know what to say to that! Cheers Violet
Heeheehee! These things happen, but sometimes i wonder why they happen to us?
You are so right!
Ouch! That one hurt just reading it. Great write!
Ooh, sorry about that! Thanks Jelli
“Well done!” Or maybe I should say, “Good for you for having packed so much disaster into 100 words!”
Noses bleed big time. Likely the young lady doesn’t like sitting beside some guy dripping blood all over his shirt, either. 😉
Not a pretty sight! Thanks so much Christine
Hahahaha. Poor girl! Hope your nose is fine now (I am guessing it’s autobiographical)
Absolutely not! (You don’t really think I’d admit it do you?!!!)
No, I don’t think so 😀
A great start to a relationship. Or maybe not.
It’s certainly a different kind of start! Thanks Sandra.
Ha, from bad to worse! Points for trying, though – I’m always determined to enjoy parties until I actually get there…
I’m not really a party person either! Cheers Draliman
Oh dear, I hope she forgives him for sneaking away and they don’t start to break the hospital. Fun story.
Theres a whole new story there! Let me think…!
I’m guessing it’s the same glad you were dancing with. I think she’s a keeper. Well done.
Have a fabulous day. 🙂
It was! Thanks Sandee
Oh dear, that really did not go as planned.
…putting it lightly! Cheers Carol
it wasn’t a good start to reinvent himself but at least he tried. hopefully, next time would be better. 🙂
It can’t be any worse! Cheers Plaridel
Oy vey! That party wasn’t not all that it as cracked up to be! 😉
Certainly not for him!
🙂 poor dude!
Ouchie. Nice one Keith
Cheers Karen
Funny story. Good take on the prompt!
Thanks, I’m pleased you liked it.
Ouch! Painfully awkward moments, great fun Keith
Fun for us anyway! Cheers Michael
I took this two ways: that the girl is in the stall beside him in the emergency room, separated perhaps by a curtain; or, that the girl has already been treated and is sitting at his bedside comforting him, because, despite everything, she fell for him anyway. I like the second idea. 😊
Whilst I haven’t a clue, I’d go with the second option! Thank you.
Oh, poor guy – just when you want to go unnoticed, lol
The story of his life! Thanks Jennifer
Oh, the misadventures we sometimes encounter in life. They do make for good stories, though. Great piece, Keith. Very entertaining.
The world would be a duller place without them! Thanks Russell.
What an unhappy, yet amusing coincidence. 🙂 Loved this clever piece!
Laughing at other’s misfortune is something we sometimes do! Thanks Debbie
Awkward.. Isn’t it..
Poor guy.. He shoukd stick to sipping warm wine.
That what I’ve told him! Thanks Anshu
ohhh. The party gone awry.
https://ideasolsi65.blogspot.com/2019/01/door.html
It certainly has!
A comedy of unfortunate circumstances.
One thing led to another! Thanks James
Hilarious. Loved the image of the girl slipping from his grasp and flying across the room. It got funnier with each sentence. Thanks for this.
I’m so pleased you liked it Margaret, thank you.
Great fun read!
I’m pleased you enjoyed it Russell
Doesn’t seem like a party time…but hospital time! I am sure after this incident you will never think of dancing again in parties 😉
…or never think of going to a party! Thanks Kislaya
Hahaha ! I liked to party and a similar thing happened to me. Somebody invited me for a waltzer; I got dizzy fell on the floor and pulled the guy with me ! Nobody was hurt, but we were the laughter of the whole party !
Something you and those around you will never forget I’m sure! Thanks Gattina
Sometimes even the invited guests are party crashers
Perfectly put Björn!
This is what happens when introverts go out and try to be ‘social’.
At least he tried, but I doubt he will again!! Thanks Fatima
Ouch! Interesting party. Poor things could do with a drink after
Certainly could! Thanks Laurie.
What a party!
I suggest Netflix for this fellow 😉
What a good idea! Cheers Dawn.
