A handful of words…

for Friday Fictioneers

I don’t like parties. I usually just stand alone, nibbling food, and sipping warm wine. But this time, I was determined to enjoy myself.

Grabbing an unsuspecting girl’s hand I swept her into the midst of the dancing revellers. Unfortunately, she slipped from my grasp, flew across the room and collided with a food-laden table.

I decided to slip away. As I tiptoed to the front door a latecomer barged it open unaware I was standing there, smashing my nose and the glass in the process.

I don’t like hospitals, especially when the young lady sitting beside me is covered in food and nursing a broken wrist.

D’you know, Keith, somehow this sounds too like you to be fiction…

      • ceayr's avatar ceayr January 17, 2019 / 21:04

        Laughing.
        Um, er…

  2. Dale's avatar Dale January 16, 2019 / 16:26

I would venture a guess that this is close to what really happened… party – check, young men horsing around – check Ooops. – check.

Oops, it sounds even worse than Peter Seller’s experience at a party, though hopefully less racist….

      • trentpmcd's avatar trentpmcd January 17, 2019 / 13:07

If you’ve never seen the movie “The Party”, it is pretty wild, though it uses ever negative Indian stereotype in Peter Seller’s character imaginable – I guess he is a kind of Indian version of Inspector Clouseau, but even more bumbling.

Gee I laughed !!! great stuff within 100 words. so much happened 🙂 more of this kind of stuff thanks, ordinary life is so bloody lacking in humor.

Just lately I’ve been doing light hearted pieces simply because they seem to be few and far between of late. So there will be more. Thank you so much for your kind words Frankie

And then everyone at the party will be there to remind him about this night for the rest of his life…

An unforgettable moment for them both, I’m sure. I don’t think they’ll be exchanging numbers 🙂

A very clever story! Like Trent, it reminds me of a Peter Seller’s scene. Oops indeed!

You seem to be having a bad time. You are a serious introvert and uncomfortable in a big gathering.

  12. rochellewisoff's avatar rochellewisoff January 17, 2019 / 12:17

    Dear Keith,

Why is it we laugh at the misfortunes of others. Yeah. I’m laughing. 😀 Good one.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings January 17, 2019 / 13:48

We should also laugh at our own misfortunes! Thanks Rochelle.

      • rochellewisoff's avatar rochellewisoff January 17, 2019 / 13:49

I consider myself to be my own anecdote. If you can’t laugh at yourself, than whom?

“Well done!” Or maybe I should say, “Good for you for having packed so much disaster into 100 words!”
Noses bleed big time. Likely the young lady doesn’t like sitting beside some guy dripping blood all over his shirt, either. 😉

  17. Piyali's avatar Piyali January 17, 2019 / 14:28

Hahahaha. Poor girl! Hope your nose is fine now (I am guessing it’s autobiographical)

Absolutely not! (You don’t really think I’d admit it do you?!!!)

        No, I don’t think so 😀

I took this two ways: that the girl is in the stall beside him in the emergency room, separated perhaps by a curtain; or, that the girl has already been treated and is sitting at his bedside comforting him, because, despite everything, she fell for him anyway. I like the second idea. 😊

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings January 19, 2019 / 10:04

Whilst I haven’t a clue, I’d go with the second option! Thank you.
