I was standing outside Qaanaaq train station in Greenland one day. It was snowing, hard. I needed somewhere to stay. Suddenly a sled stopped alongside me. There was a strange ball of fur on the sled, and to my surprise, a voice came from it! I then noticed two little eyes peering at me and I  realised I was looking at an Eskimo!

“You wan ‘otel?” the voice said.

“Well, actually, yes” I said.

“You wanna stay Intiglo ‘otel?” it asked. ‘It very good”

“Okay, why not” I said.

“Hop on,” it said, so I did.

Well, we slid along at breakneck speed dodging the occasional snowman, and eventually arrived at a cluster of snow domes and slid to a halt.

“We ‘ere sir” it said.

Well, I couldn’t see a hotel anywhere. Suddenly a dapper little gentleman in a penguin suit appeared.

“May I be of assistance sir?” he said.

“Ah yes” I answered. “Where exactly am I sleeping tonight?”

“In the Igloo Hotel sir,” he said. “Third dome on the right”

I wrote this story ages ago and never found a use for it – until today!

I wonder is the bed comfortable, and do they do room service?

Hi Keith – glad you found a happy home for it … a wee bit cold perhaps … but fun to read – cheers Hilary

A delightfully entertaining story – I felt cold just thinking about an ice bedroom, with an ice bed, a frozen hot water bottle…..

    A hotel with maximum [operational-cost] efficiency, I guess 🙂
