Life can be cruel. One can never know when it will deal a dead man’s hand. Only it can decide when it’s time to depart this mortal coil.
I watched a caterpillar as it crawled across a leaf. After a couple of minutes it disappeared from view. I know it sounds stupid, but I almost envied it, for after a short life it will be reborn as a thing of beauty, a butterfly.
What will happen to me? Some say this, some say that. Free forever to exist in eternity, or stubbed out like a spent cigarette? Life’s a mystery, what lies beyond, or not, even more so.
I pray. I do. I’ll continue to. I shall. I hope someone’s listening to me. Please let it be.
.
I should remind you that these are the the thoughts of a fictional character, and not necessarily mine. I’m not sure I’d want to be a caterpillar!

Perfect weaving of both prompt photos Keith. I like your musings about other prespectives of existence/life. Butterflies tend to bring to mind such marvels as the length and breadth of life (I feel) Great read.
Thanks so much for your thoughts, Suzette.
You are most welcome, Keith.
This is a profound piece Keith. Thanks for joining in with these interesting thoughts.
Not my normal style, so I’m pleased had the desired effect! Thanks, Sadje.
Yes, it’s not and that’s why it has such a profound effect.
I just remind myself I didn’t ask to come here- and so far it has worked out- so whatever does or doesn’t exist in the afterlife- I am sure i will be ok. You too my friend!
Wise words, Jodi! We’ll all be okay, just you see!
Caterpillar or not Keith, it’s a good post!
Thanks so much, Di.
Despite the cynics and the nay-sayers, I’m a believer. I say my prayers, try to be a decent person and trust I’ll be with my loved ones in the afterlife. Without faith and hope, what’s the point? Lovely post, dear Keith.
What indeed. Thanks for sharing this with us, Nancy
best of luck to all!
I quite agree!
No matter what you believe, you’re in my heart and prayers.
What a lovely thing to say, thank you, Mimi.
Great perspective, Keith!

Thanks so much, Yvette!
I don’t think you’d make a very good caterpillar, Keith…I’ve heard they don’t have much sense of humor so you’d have a sparse audience.😁
That’s true, and butterflies are a bit flighty.
Yes indeed…”flighty”, haha!
Aww, what a pretty caterpillar over there! 🐛
Isn’t it cute?
Keith you will definitely transform into something spectacular – maybe not a butterfly as they can’t talk …but something spectacular and colourful…….perhaps a parrot 🦜😊
I like that, as I enjoy singing I’d be called Pavarotti!
😂
I truly enjoyed reading your reflective and thought-provoking blog post. The imagery of the caterpillar transforming into a butterfly is so beautifully symbolic. It really makes you ponder life’s uncertainties and mysteries. Have you ever had a moment where you found yourself envying the simplicity of nature’s transformations like the caterpillar’s? I would love to hear your insights on that.
