The castle’s ballroom is a joy to behold. Beneath the crystal chandeliers are tables laden with exotic delicacies. Waiters glide this way and that proffering flutes of sparkling champagne, mellifluous music floats in the air.
I’m alone yet I’m not, for I’m surrounded by beautiful people; elegant ladies in sumptuous gowns, sharply dressed gentleman. They talk to one another, they laugh, they dance.
She slowly descends the marble staircase. The guests turn and and watch. A vision of beauty, a lady in red. She saunters across the floor, bushing aside requests for the honour of a dance, then lowers herself into a plush chair.
What is happening? One moment I’m watching her and now we are dancing, cheek to cheek. There’s nobody here, it’s just her and me. It’s where I want to be. But I hardly know this beauty by my side. This lady in red.
A resounding cheer raises the roof and she’s no longer in my arms. Suddenly I am alone again, yet I’m not, for I’m surrounded by beautiful people.
We watch as she ascends the marble staircase. She pauses, turns her head and smiles in my direction. She takes my breath away. I’ve never had such a feeling, such a feeling of complete and utter love, as I do tonight.
Now she’s gone. The lady in red.

It still is, I can’t get rid of it!
Like Violet Keith, I was singing that song as I read it too – it also reminded me of the fairy tale – Cinderella, I hope you find this woman of your dreams 😊
