She suggested we meet beneath the clock at seven thirty. It’s seven twenty five and I’m ready and waiting.
I’ve never had much luck with these dating apps. Back in the old days, the local newspaper had a column called Lonely Hearts especially for people looking for love. That was before you could doctor your picture in order to make yourself more attractive than you actually are, what you saw was what you got! I’m honest though, apart from airbrushing out a few wrinkles, my photo is a pretty good likeness.
Let’s see now, it’s seven twenty nine. I’m feeling a little nervous and beginning to wish I’d gone to the toilet before I arrived!
Oh dear, it’s seven forty four and she’s not turned up. But hang on a minute, there’s someone heading my way! She doesn’t look that much like her picture, but like I said, that’s not unusual these days!
“Hi”, I say, “I was worried you’d changed your mind”.
“Why?”, she asks, “it’s a quarter to eight, I’m bang on time!”.
Not a good start!
“I’m Mike”, I say, “you must be Susan”.
“No”, she replies, “I’m Julie and I thought you were Henry”.
“Well, it seems we’ve both been stood up, do you fancy going for a drink?” I ask.
“Let’s!” she says.
That dating app’s not so bad after all!.

Thanks to Sadje for hosting the What Do You See? photo prompt challenge
…with a not to one of the greatest movies of all time!

hahaha – and I have to say that I’ve personally met two of the wrong people on dates but never dated them, though we did have great laughs
You’ll never know what you missed!
Very nicely done, Keith — and yes, that wonderful film… (those were the days).
Indeed they were! Thanks Chris.
Love with the proper stranger. Wonderful story, dear Keith.
It was meant to be! Thank you, Nancy.
A lucky encounter for them both. Love this fun story Keith. Thanks for joining in.
It was! Thanks so much, Sadje.
You’re very welcome
Sounds promising…
So far, so good!
A Brief Encounter is one of my favorites! I loved hearing you read this and then finding out you know this movie too!
I really should watch it again!
Good one Keith. Hubby and I met through an ad in the paper.
Really? I like that!
He says it was the best tenner he ever spent and I say it was the best stamp I ever licked!
Flexibility. That’s the key to working these dating apps.
I do believe you are right!
Sometimes things just work out exactly as they should.
…and this was a perfect example! Thanks, Mimi.
