‘Carpe diem’, thought the fish, ‘it’s time I stopped swimming against the tide and going with the flow; I need to scale new heights, metaphishally speaking! There has to be more to life than flapping round and around, blowing bubbles and gazing up at the sky.
I’ll go forth, fifth even, and discover what lies downstream. Am I ready? Yes, I am! Off I go!
I’m getting funny looks from my fellow carps as I dart between them, but I don’t care. They probably think I’m being wreckless as I head for the watermill. The wheel is an obstacle, I know, but it’s one I’l have to overcome if I’m to venture into the wet blue yonder.
Here we go. Wooo, up up up, down down down! That was fun, I’ll do it again! Round and around up and down! Weee!
I’ve been swimming for some time now. I’m in the middle of nowhere. I’ve passed a few toads, seen a couple of badgers, flapped a fin at fish or two.
Look. There. I knew it would just be a matter of time before I came across one of those wicked anglers. They try to scam us by dangling tasty morsels in the water hoping we are unaware of the hook that lies within. You won’t catch me chum.
As much as I’ve enjoyed your company, it’s time for me to head off on my own and discover what life has to offer. And so, paraphrasing Douglas Adams, so long and thanks to all the fish!’
