A short story for Sadje’s What Do You See? photo prompt.

I should have listened.
He’s no good, they said. Look what he did to her.
It was her own fault, I said, he loves me.
How wrong I was.
.
It’s a safe house, they said. He can’t trouble you now.
They lied.
They bloody lied because he’s here. I can see him through the gap in the closet doors.
He’s over there, see? There, wandering to and fro, a glistening blade clenched in his white-knuckled fist.
He’s going from one room to another, up the stairs and down again.
This way and that, that way and … this.
My heart’s throbbing, he’s getting closer. My heart’s pounding, he’s snarling. He’s reaching for the door. I’m …
.
It’s a safe house they said. He can’t trouble you now.
They lied.

Wow! A cliffhanger! Thanks Keith for joining in with this great story.
That’s really kind of you Sadje, thankyou.
You’re welcome ☺️
Riveting lines at the end there, Keith…I wonder who he is and what he has in mind. Intriguing!
Thanks, Suzette. Even I’m wondering!
Powerful! Well done!
Oh no!
Reads like a promo for a scary thriller book or movie.
Hi Keith – yes excellent … cliffhanger is the word – or perhaps closet hoper might be more to the tale … cheers Hilary
Oooh, this is a chilling tale.
Wow, good grief Keith, that was a tense thriller and a cliffhanger ending! Phew, definitely not a safe house! Well done, My friend.
I shall be repeating so I will say…
all of the above, Keith. 👌
… and add fascinating too. ✨
OMG, this is one out of the hat Keith! Good stuff!!
This was is so powerful Keith, and so far from your usual comic stories – but I love them both 😊
That’s why no one in town knows where the safe house is for the abused women. The people who run it keep it a secret and do a great job of it.
A scary story, well done.
Not so safe house after all. You kept us on the edge, Keith.
UH OH!
