A short story for Friday Fictioneers which is hosted by Rochelle.

‘
Apologies in advance for my attempt at an American accent, but you can’t blame me for tryin’!
.
.
“It’s a stupid idea,” said Thomas, “it’ll never take off”.
“It’s plane sailing,” said Orville.
“I doubt it,” Thomas replied.
“We’ll be taking travel to new heights,” Wilber enthused.
“It’s a flight of fancy,” Thomas huffed.
“You’ll be looking up Orville and me in time,” said Wilber, “just wait and see”.
The brothers were right of course, but I doubt even they could have foreseen what their humble little flying machine would in time become.
.
“We’re flying to the moon,” said Armstrong.
“Me too,” buzzed Aldrin.
“You’re a couple of lunartics,” chuckled Major Tom!

Three years ago I wrote a silly little story for Friday Fictioneers based on the Wright brother’s maiden flight. It’s HERE if you’d like to take a look!

Ground control to doubting Tom… That thing’ll never fly. Good one.

I love it, especially the way you winged the story: poor Orville.

Mankind will ever dream of new heights. Cynics will ever scoff. Another good one – and an interesting medley of accents. 🙂

Next you should try a Scottish accent — maybe the fellows who invented golf? 🙂

Lunatic literally means someone influenced by the moon

Always enjoy your word-play, Keith, and the accent worked. Actually sounded rather New England-ish, like from New Hampshire or Vermont 🙂

Dear Keith,
Buzzed Aldrin. New heights. Oh the pun, the pun. Your story did take wing and lifted off beautifully.

A flight of fancy that has taken on worldwide heights. Amazing how everything invented seems that way until it becomes real.

It does seem pretty insane. What is this witchery?

I know, if we were meant to fly we’d have wings!

Your story is a rather encouraging reminder that great things can have humble beginnings and just because the start looks humble it doesn’t mean it’s not going to be great.

I’m sure that applies to many things we take for granted these days.

Good story, Keith. The plane in this photo is a replica of a French plane in which Louis Bleriot made the first ever crossing of the English Channel, but not many people remember him – the Wright Bros took all the glory going!

Great fun story! And your American accent wasn’t bad. Probably not what the Wright brothers sounded like being from Ohio, but who remembers what that sounded like at the turn of the 20th century? Not me. But what do I know; I was raised in NYC with a dad with an Italian accent, in the borough of Queens where over 200 languages are spoken. So everyone has a different accent. Well done all around.
