Look who’s here!

For Six Sentence Stories where the given word is Sin.

Rosey winkThose of you that are familiar with the antics of My Friend Rosey will know that she is employed as a teacher’s assistant at a school where she’s considered by the pupils to be one of them rather than an authoritarian figure!

Last term, my friend Rosey was told she was to take a group of kids to a Communion service at St. Peter’s as part of their Religious Education studies, something that would normally be carried out by their proper teacher, Miss Grossman, who it seemed was to be temporarily indisposed.

Incidentally, Rosey got into a bit of trouble with Miss G after she told the kids during morning assembly she was going to take them ‘God bothering’ thereby setting off a fit of giggles in the hall!

Rosey hadn’t been to such a service for quite a while, and having built up a catalogue of quite a few sins, all be they minor ones, she thought it might prove beneficial in the eyes of Him up there!

She was worried she wouldn’t remember exactly what to do, so I agreed to take her for a dummy run so to speak.

At one point she nudged me in the ribs and pointed out that the service sheet said gluten-free communion bread was available which for some reason tickled her, then she put her hand to her mouth and asked me in a hushed whisper what ‘Sanctified’ wine was; was it like Sancerre?

I think she was joking but with Rosey, you can never be sure and my biggest fear was that when we went forward to receive communion she would ask if they had any Merlot; happily, she didn’t and apart from occasionally sitting when others stood, and standing when others sat she did pretty well!

Rosey’s been a regular source of tales on my blog for 16 years during which time she’s managed not to grow a year older, such is the power of fiction!

I’ve written about 120 Rosey stories, and posted some of the best-received ones on a dedicated site simply called My Friend Rosey – it’s HERE  if you’d like to take a look.

I like her confusing “Sancerre” with “sanctified”. It looks like she needed the dummy run.

Thanks, Paul, she does like a drop of Merlot – or Merlott as she pronounces it!

Rosey, don’t you know you are never a bother to your Heavenly Father who loves you? That goes for your friend Keith, too.

    Fun story!

“…was it like Sancerre?” Oh, my gosh that had me laughing.
I swear, Keith, if time travel were available I’d go back to your pub days, you telling stories. You are a natural.
And yes, I’d raise a glass of Merlot to Rosey!!

Denise, I can’t thank you enough for your lovely comment. We did have fun at the pub, lots of my story ideas come from things I heard and experienced back then. You’d have loved joining in with our village folk!
