Just 30 minutes drive from me is Bodiam Castle which was built in 1385. I hadn’t visited it for many years so I thought I’d take advantage of our first proper spring day and pay it a visit.
I apologise in advance for the large number of pictures, I couldn’t decide which ones to leave out!

Never too many pictures. And what I like about your pictures is you let them speak for themselves – with just a wee bit of explanation. I see the ruins but try to imagine what the castle was in its golden years.

There’s a saying – if only walls could talk, well these did for me!

Glorious photos, Keith! I always fancied those adventure movies with Errol Flynn bounding through the forests and castles throughout England. I’m reminded of them now looking at your pix.
Thank goodness for indoor plumbing!

Don’t apologise for the pics. We don’t have castles here! Love to see them….infact we don’t have buildings that are 600 years old!

We have a castle even closer to me which was built by the Romans almost 2000 years ago, so Bodiam’s a baby in comparison!

It’s lovely and quite small by castle standard! The weather was perfect, but we’ve not had a day like it since!

That is truly amazing and how it sits there in the middle of the water! The “graffiti” is also beautiful. It would be so fun to have seen it as it was being built ages ago.

It certainly would! Most castles back then had deep moats around them to keep the enemy away from the walls.

Beautiful castle ruins! From a distance, it looks like it could be from a movie.
I also like that the wall art (aka “graffiti”) and some writing is still there.

You’re right, it does! A lot more work went into that graffiti, no spray cans back then!
