A short story for Sadje’s What Do You See? photo prompt.

Fred got fired from his job. They said he lacked the spark that was required of him.
As he solemnly sauntered towards the bus stop he picked up a copy of the Evening Standard hoping it wouldn’t contain too much bad news. He’d had enough for one day. However, it was filled with stuff about an atrocious fire that had swept through a building.
On the journey home he read about the heroic efforts of the firefighters, and it gave him an idea. He’d had enough of dreary jobs in soulless offices, he needed to do something that people applauded, a job that made a difference in people’s lives. He’d become a fireman!
It was the best thing he ever did. This week he’s got bookings for two bachelorette parties, a ninety-year-old Granny’s birthday bash and the annual Ladies-wot-Lunch Big Thing event!

A fireman, eh? So he’s lighting fires instead of putting them out.

Um, Fred … That’s not what firemen are supposed to do! Haha! Well done, Keith. I love it.

Thanks, Mason. Try telling Fred that and that and he’ll wave his swatter at you!

Oh! Keith fabulous story telling. Lovely twist at the end..that was not the kind of fireman I was imagining that he had in mind…but I am sure he was “hot”

Sometimes I feel overwhelmed by all the signs, especially when I am visiting a spot seeking quiet and contemplation. Signs make a place feel noisy, if that makes sense.
