Look who’s here again!

A short story for The Sunday Muse

Rosey winkMy friend Rosey is really proud of her piano. That’s what she calls it, but actually, it’s a little electric keyboard!

She bought it because of her passion for one particular piece of music, a piece she learned as a child and has loved ever since. It’s played by pianists the world over, and according to Rosey has its roots in ancient China.

It’s called Chopsticks.

As you may know, she has two cats called Fuzzybutt and Scruff, and they like nothing more than to walk up and down the plastic ivories creating music of their own!

Rosey loves to sit back, close her eyes and listen to their melodic creations, taking care not to spill her glass of chardonnay!

She thought it would be a good idea to notate some of their works for future generations to enjoy, but as she can’t read or write music she had to come up with a method of her own.

She applied stick-on numbers to the white keys, one to twenty-four and as the cats march to and fro, she writes down the numbers in the order they’re trodden on adding a half if they step on a black one. Clever, eh?

She has several pieces ready for publication, Paws for Thought, A Tail of two Pussies, Meowzarts Cattata and Feline Fine to name but a few!

The latest piece is as yet untitled and for the time being is known as Twelve, Four and a half, Sixteen, Eight.

If only Liberace was still alive, he’d have loved them!

I can’t sight read fast enough so rely on my ear to pick out a melody (no jokes please about having my face close to the keyboard). What a brilliant way to write out original compositions!

Indeed, Liberace would have–and as usual, you are hilarious, Keith! (So you don’t get too confused, this is from new blog of “Leyde”/Leslie)

How delightful to hear you read this charming piece of prose. I am a flautist who always wanted to learn piano …. tomorrow, tomorrow.

Oh, if I’d read this back when my piano teacher was trying to stuff composition into my head! Comp never took but this would have been a fun substitution.

Ha ha ha! Keith, I was looking forward to your piece and as usual, you cracked me up! I love Rosey’s shenanigans, she’s a bloody genius as far as I’m concerned and clearly ahead of her time. You should title the next piece “What Rosey Did Next” 🙂 I love the titles of the pieces she wrote, sooo funny! That made me laugh again at the end 😀 😀
