“Wake up Gilbert, it’s blowing a gale out there,” said Gertrude as their mobile home shook sending a vase of flowers crashing to the floor. “So much for the lie-in we were looking forward to”.
Gilbert sat up, rubbed his bleary eyes and dragged back the curtain.
“More like a tornado Gert, I’d swear I just saw a tree blow past. There goes another, and a road sign!”
The shack shuddered and swayed.
“I said we should have bought a proper house” grumbled Gertrude.
The truck driver’s phone rang.
“You idiot” shouted his boss. “You were supposed to collect mobile thirty-seven, not twenty-seven!”

Love the ending twist! With several RTM builders in our area, on our little highway we see houses go past frequently — but none of them with occupants. 🙂

It would be funny if you did though, wouldn’t it?! Thanks Christine.

It would indeed. Especially to see someone peering out the upstairs window of a two-storey RTM.

Oops, well at least they get an adventure out of it. I suspect the driver may be looking for new employment…

Oops! Though how they got the trailer onto a low-loader without shaking the occupants awake is a mystery!

Tornadoes are nasty, and I expect that the driver is likely to get a nasty shock.

Keith,
LOL. You’re the master of misdirection and had me thinking of tornadoes and whatnot. This was not a good day for the benighted couple, but then again, what if they’ve been relocated free of charge to a Mediterranean beach?! Happy ending!

Hi Keith – funny – poor old Gilbert and Gertrude … I wonder what happens next?! A good story to have up one’s sleeve! Cheers, seems less windy, today – Hilary
PS – carpet gardens are over … and the mix of colours wasn’t brilliant – that little pocket sang out to me … so give it another 3 – 4 weeks I’d suggest … but always there …

I wonder too! I’m sure it’s a story they’ll be relating forevermore!
Thanks for the info re. the carpet gardens, I’ll give it a month!

It is good to know that Gilbert and Gertrude are deep sleepers, although waking up when your house has gone for a tour along the road might spoil breakfast. What about the paper delivery and the post, how could they possible start the day with the Daily Standard to read.

I could do without bills arriving, but no paper means no crossword! Nooo!

Ha, that’s a good one well done.
Something like happened to me. My now husband our dogs and I were staying temporarily in a truck camper that was on blocks in a friend’s back yard. It had been sold but not picked up by the new owner yet. I woke thinking there was an earthquake.
