aaa1111I can’t describe the feeling I had when standing on stage with my electric keyboard. Notes leaping, hovering and diving, my audience flying with me. They yelled, they clapped, sometimes they wept. Such is the power of music.

I played in smoky bars too, whisky and a cigarette to hand. There, my music competed with chattering crowds. I played loudly, they spoke loudly; in quiet pieces, they murmured. But I loved it.

I play less now. I occasionally entertain old folk and sometimes sit in for the church organist. Music remains my constant companion, though now I consume more than I create.

    Other than piano recitals, I’ve only ever played music in front of a life audience once. For my grandparents 50th anniversary party, my cousins and I played Colour My World. One cousin on drums, the other on bass guitar and me on piano. I forgot the music for one of the verses so just stopped playing (although did jump back in later), my cousin on the guitar was also singing and he kept moving his head away from the microphone so you could only hear every fourth word to the song and my cousin on drums was just trying to get us through to the end. It was a performance only grandparents could enjoy and my last attempt at live music although both those cousins continue to play music to this day. Weekends In Maine

        I wish we had but it was in the days before cell phones. Now there would probably be lots of records of it but I think all I have is a blurry polaroid in a drawer somewhere. And, my memories!

    I only consume music not play or sing it aloud. Music soothes me when I want to relax and energizes me when I feel like dancing. While it is easy to envy the person with the talent to sing and play various instruments, the talented may also wish to be the one sitting back or dancing. But all appreciate the benefits of this constant companion. Well written, thank you.

    It’s strange but ever since I disposed off my music system I’ve stopped listening to music . I miss it but can’t get used to music playing in my ears through a phone !!!!! I like my music to be loud and fill the entire space with joy.

    I sang in those places, but the smoke finally was just too much if the stage area wasn’t ventilated.
