A handful of words …

for Friday Fictioneers

A few days ago I wrote a 50-word story about a lamp post! I wish I’d had Dale’s picture to accompany it. If you’re interested, it’s HERE!

.

whitebbbbbbbbbbbb

A thousand sparkling diamonds encrust a jet black sky. Snow beneath my feet glistens in the eerie light of a shimmering silver moon.

The hoot of an owl breaks the silence. A fox stands motionless, one paw raised, green eyes staring into mine. A moth flutters ’round a lamp, a bat swoops by.

Eyes heavy, I reluctantly wend my way home.

Throwing open the curtains, I gaze out at the bewitching world I’ve just discovered.

It’ll be gone when I wake, the night’s calm replaced by the bustle of the day.

And so to sleep, wishing I was a creature of the night.

Very evocative Keith. I’m too old to be a creature of the night now. I need my sleep!

I’m the opposite – the older I get the less I sleep and I like nothing more than having a stroll in the early hours with just the sound of the sea for company!

When I was growing up in the city, we could stay out until the street lights came on. No such thing out here in the burbs. Nice story.

Your word paintbrush was full of wonderful things in this one, Keith. Made me want to go for a walk in the dark, but it’s raining and a bit chilly. Maybe tomorrow.

It doesn’t hurt to wish. There’s a lot to be said for the stillness of the night. Now I’m thinking of that song from The Phantom of the Opera.

Had I known… I would have let you have the image 😉
However, what you did here was wonderful. I was strolling along with you in the peaceful quiet of the night.

Sorry, that noise was me laughing at the moth story. Brilliant! Just brilliant.
And today, such poetic prose. Beautiful.

A sparkling vivid picture of night life and night critters. Daylight washes out such beauty. Beautifully written Keith.

This read like a song hummed under one’s tone, sleepily awake, dreamily in the zone. Lovely!

The night has a different sight & things look less eerie when there is light.
He is so enamored that he wants to be a creature of the night!

You made me wish I was there, walking through the snow in the quiet of night.

I walk out almost every night. However sadly it is a very long time since I walked at night by the sea. You brought the night alive for me. Thank you

I live close to the shore, and in the early hours, the waves are all I hear. I’m so pleased you enjoyed it Michael.

Or … become second or third shift. Nothing wrong with that at all. I love the imagery here. Now that I live in the city, walking at night is more dangerous (cars not criminals although maybe that too) so I don’t really. I miss late-night walks in the country or on the beach.

Living in a small seaside town it’s very quiet after lights-out. It suits me!

There’s not much as beautiful as a warm summer’s night out under the stars.
