‘It was Lily’s fault’ said Billy pointing at the shattered flower pot.

‘It was the football’s fault’ shouted Lily ‘because it went the wrong way when I kicked it’

Daddy cleared up the mess and found a new home for the sorry looking poppy plant.

Lily gave the football a serious talking to. ‘You must go where I kick you, do you understand?’ she said wagging her finger. 

Billy giggled and shook his head.

‘Right’ said Lily, ‘let’s try again and this time, behave. One two three kick!’

There was the sound of breaking glass from Mrs Smith’s garden next door.

    Sounds familiar. My son was telling my grandson not to throw the ball in the family room. So, I told my grandson about his father practicing his golf swing in the family room and putting the club through the cathedral ceiling. Like father, like son – I hope not, lol.

    Might we propose a new activity for Lily? Probably not knitting. She might put out her eye. Definitely something quieter though. Cute story.

    Lily’s got the right idea. There shouldn’t be so many potted plants and glass everywhere when she’s trying to train a ball.

    This brought a smile. My older sister was spot on in every sport she tried. I was exactly like Lily, although I never broke anything! Thank goodness.

    Like most people who were once kids, I can relate. My friends and I broke our fair share of things. I like Lily talking to the ball. Nice touch. It has to be the ball’s fault, right?
