Hello Bob.

Hello Mike.

Quite a storm last night.

Yea, gotta sweep up this seaweed.

Want a hand?

Cheers, Mike.

Loads of mussels here Bob.

I know, there were some fish too, but the gulls grabbed ‘em.

They do that.

There was a mermaid sitting over there earlier.

Really?

Mmm. Said her name was Meryl or Myrtle or something.

That would have been Myrtle, was she okay?

Yea, asked if we were serving coffee.

Whatcha say?

Well, I said no. We don’t open the caff till eight.

What time was it?

Quarter to, so she swam off.

That looks better Bob.

Yea, thanks, Mike.

See ya.

Bye.

.

Thanks to Rochelle for hosting and to Sandra Crook for the photo.

Just a casual mermaid sighting, as you do! 🙂

Quite common here Iain! My town, Bexhill-on-Sea has for many years held the Guinness Book of Records award for the biggest number of Mermaids in one place, last year it was 317 on our beach – in costumes of course! This years attempt was cancelled – even they are susceptible to the dreaded C-word!

Oddly, I can imagine two men passing these words… they sit across the way and let me say some of their stories are real “fish” stories, too. LOL!

    Dear Keith,

Love the dialogue. Myrtle the Mermaid. Sounds like fun. Flipping my flippers in approval.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

What fun to think of a mermaid wanting a cup of coffee! Wonderful surreal scene you paint for us, Keith, and done with the simplicity of a true artist.

Being a land locked mermaid myself I appreciate the dialogue. Maybe you guys need to get that coffee ready sooner, but yoou’re forgiven today because of the storm.
Had it been me-maid, I’d have waved it away in a gentle breeze, back to the seas of home, Myrtle was upset about the coffee, by the way.

And what’s not normal about that?! Fun read, Keith!

The casual way in which they are talking means no one is special enough to open early, eh? Mermaid or no!

    He has a helping hand.
He knows about the mermaid very well 🙂
Great to have great friends in such situations!

Sorry, Keith, this is just silly.
Everyone knows that mermaids drink green tea, not coffee.
Myrtle would be unbearable on a caffeine high.

Smiling from your Lil Mermaid fish image … cute
I think they must have had some green beer. A bit early for St. Patty’s day
but never too early for a pint. Great dialog between two chums.
Have a great day … Be Safe

I love the contrast between the matter-of-fact dialogue and the absurdity of the situation.

Your conversation sounds like it’s between those two guys on Detectorists, Andy and Lance. Nicely done. Also love your Fromaid!

Ha! Ha! I like the thought of coffee drinking mermaids. Must be popping in for fish and chips too.

If you let one mermaid have an early coffee, pretty soon they’ll all want one. Fun 🙂

Myrtle probably went to Starbucks where mermaids drink free. It’s one of the many perks (no pun intended) of image licensing with a coffee giant.

I loved the dialogue and, as others commented, the casual reference to a mermaid sighting.

I think Myrtle likes to help the shoreline economy by supporting little cafe’s, but I’ll mention Starbucks to her next time she washes up near me!

The casual acceptance of living by the sea, cleaning up after a storm, and the usual appearance of a mermaid; they are an early lot – he should have given her a coffee, where was Bob’s manners?
