Today’s words :-
Verbile – a person whose mental processes are most easily stimulated by words
Vale – a farewell
Vera’s a verbile of the first degree so taking her on at Scrabble was something of a fool’s errand, and it didn’t look good for me from the word ‘go’!
Her first set of letters was RBLTOUE so I knew I was in ‘trouble’!
But then my luck changed and I produced an eight-letter word, yes, eight tiles, ‘absolute’. The best she could find was just a two-letter word, ‘xu’!
I then produced another long one, ‘literal’. Guess what, she could only find a three-letter word, ‘wiz’. I had to be in the lead!
Me, eight tiles, ‘trailing’.
Vera, only three tiles again, ‘joy’.
Me, six tiles, ‘undone’.
Vera, three tiles, ‘ivy’.
“Vera” I said, “I’m beating you, look how many tiles I’ve used!”
She pointed to the little numbers in the corner of each one and told me what they were for. Then she showed me the score so far. Vera 55, me 36. I felt deflated (which is thirteen points apparently) so I bid her vale and went up to the bar to get myself a glass of wine.
“Cabernet sauvignon please” I said. “‘How much is that?”
“Twenty four mate” he chuckled.

You’ve spiced scrabble up nicely. I bet you’re good at scrabble. I play Words With Friends on my phone, which is a fair imitation.

Ah yes! Those little numbers…, Especially when X, Q, K, or A lands on a triple letter or word score. Live & learn. 😉

It’s all in the points, isn’t it. Maybe that’s the point of everything!

Scrabble is my all time favourite but I didn’t know words like xu and wiz were acceptable. Also I thought Vale was another word for valley ( used more in poetry)

Me too Unishta. I found xu and wiz in my Scrabble dictionary – https://scrabblewordfinder.org/check Vale is commonly used as an alternative word for valley, but in days of yore, it was ‘an interjection defined as a way to express farewell’!

Ah, scrabble. Never been that great at it. All words vanish from the brain when I have to play the game. This was fun to read, though. She sure is a smart girl. 🙂

If Vera can beat you in the game of scrabble, she must be an absolute legend of the game!
I wonder how you must have felt while writing this piece…something like playing both black and white sides of the chess, maybe. 🙂

Haha! I have to admit, I’m dreadful, at spelling as my Grammarly app weekly report seems to take pleasure in reminding me!

I’m not smart at Scrabble the way Vera is but still I like to play it. Sometimes…Only sometimes I manage.

Scrabble is a favourite in my house. My mum is really good at it and usually wins. The little numbers at the bottom do matter!
