Today’s seven S words are:-
Scarcement – a narrow ledge
Sylph – a mythical being like a fairy or sprite.
Slimkin – small and slender.
Subtrist – rather sad.
Siffilated – whispered.
Smatchet – a small nasty child.
Starified – decorated something with stars.
I found another great word which I couldn’t use, but I thought I’d share it with you anyway!
Sluberdegullion – a slovenly, slobbering person!
My friend Rosey has a vivid imagination. So vivid, she often believes her imaginings to be true!
Apparently the other afternoon she was sitting on her balcony enjoying a bottle of Chardonnay, as is her wont, when a slimkin fairy fluttered down and sat on the scarcement.
The little sylph looked somewhat subtrist. Rosey asked her what was wrong, and the fairy beckoned her over then siffilated in her ear.
She said there was a nasty little boy down below in the street and he’d very been rude to her. Rosey recognised the little smatchet straight away. He was a trouble-maker from her class at the school where she works. Rosey often sends him to the naughty corner.
The next thing you need to believe is that Rosey has a tame bee that often sits with her!
Ok, I know what you’re thinking but bear with me, please!
She sent the bee down to chase the wretched boy away and he ran off flapping his hands. The fairy kissed Rosey on the cheek, starified the balcony and flew away.
Rosey was certain she hadn’t imagined it because the lad arrived at school the next day with a swollen red nose. He told her he’d been stung by a bee!
Make of that what you will!

Some of these words I can recognize becaue of their French roots. Triste being sad and siffle being whistle. Slubberdegullion must be a cousin to flibbertigibbet. 😉

I’m glad you provide a glossary otherwise would’ve been hard to understand. But this was a fun story. Go Rosey.

Hi Keith – wonderful … delightful read on a sunny day like today. I’d have thought a visit to the pub in the evening would have given Rosey a chance to gossip once again … even to the Sluberdegullion ….??!! Enjoy today with less chilling easterly wind. Take care – Hilary

She’s missing her visits to the pub! Lovely day, I’m thinking of going to Abbots Wood for my daily exercise, apparently the bluebells are amazing there this year..

I got all of them except Sluberdegullion. It was a tough nut to crack. Thank you for taking so much pain to dig up these forgotten words. I loved Rosey’s tale. 🙂

Rosey might have done better to instruct her bee to chase but not sting. Although maybe it will teach the lad a lesson, i rather doubt it, most such people do not learn easily.
