Today’s underused words :-
Popinjay – a parrot
Picaroon –a scoundrel
Pardie – irreverent or careless use of a sacred name
Peradventure – perhaps, possibly
Joan led a quiet life. She lost her husband a while back and really missed his company.
She thought about getting a pet, but she wasn’t really a cat or dog person. Then one of her friends suggested she get a popinjay. Not only would it keep her company, but they’d also be able to talk to each other!
She found a beauty at the pet store. Bongo, it was called! Apparently, it already knew the odd sentence or two. Just what she wanted.
She carried Bongo home in his cage, placed it on the sideboard and removed the cloth cover.
‘Hello gorgeous – fancy a good time?’ he said!
Joan was shocked! She was going to have a serious chat with him.
One of Joan’s friends from the Women’s Institute popped round a few days later.
‘Hello gorgeous – fancy a good time?’ shrieked the picaroon much to Joan’s embarrassment.
She mentioned the problem to her priest who had an articulate parrot called Angel. Angel just said prayers. A meeting was suggested; peradventure his bird would have a positive influence over hers. She just hoped Bongo wouldn’t pardie in front of them!
When Joan arrived at the priest’s house, Angel, his pious popinjay was deep in prayer. True to form Bongo shrieked ‘Hello gorgeous – fancy a good time?’
She chuckled so the priest walked over to her cage and asked ‘What’s so amusing?’
Angel looked to the heavens and said ‘My prayers have just been answered’!

Aww! sweet love story. Wonder who they’d end up with… the priest or Joan?
Knew ‘popinjay.’ Like the sound of picaroon—rhymes with macaroon:)

I’d like them to fly off into the sunset but I doubt that’ll happen! I’m suddenly craving a macaroon!

ROTFLOL – great story, thank you for the smile. Picaroon is a word I am going to have to remember. Isn’t popinjay slang for a vain person too?
