EToday’s redundant words are :-

Eyne – eyes

Equipage – equipment

Embouchure  – the mouth of a river

Erelong – soon

Eftsoon – in a short while

Egad – exclamation of surprise.

Enow – enough

Excogigate – plot, plan, devise

Esurient – hungry

What a nice campsite.  Now, where shall I pitch up?  This spot’s perfect.  A treat for the eyne. It’s beside the embouchure so I’ll be able to catch fish and paddle during the day and the sound of rippling water will send me to sleep at night!

Now, let’s get the equipage.  Firstly my little tent.  Apparently, it’s easy to put up.  Just a few poles, some ropes and some cloth. Erelong, my home for the next few days will be ready for occupation!  Eftsoon, I’ll be sitting by my campfire cooking … something.  Not sure what just yet. I might go foraging.  We’ll see. 

Anyway, here goes.  That fits there and this goes here.  So far so good.  Bang some pegs in...ouch, my thumb … and there it is!

1737026Egad, what’s that?  I’m being stared at by a wild beast.  They didn’t say anything about them on Tripadvisor!  Shoo!

Oh no, it’s beginning to rain. I’ll have to crawl inside.  Blimey, it’s a bit smaller than I expected. Never mind. Oo-err, the wind’s getting up, please don’t blow me away!

I’ve had enow.  This was not a good idea.  I need to excogitate and I’m esurient too so I’ll walk up to The Good Intent pub for some grub and have a think.

“Fish and chips, and a pint of your finest frothing ale landlord please, and do you perchance offer bed and breakfast accommodation?”

    You should have thrown equipage into your list. Don’t hear that too often around here.

    I take it this camper guy is the same guy who shops at IKEA?

      Well spotted Denise. I meant to add and didn’t realise iI hadn’t! It’s there now.

      I’m not sure Ikea guy would manage to erect a tent!

    I thought Egad was just an exclamation used in Archie comics . Didn’t know it was a real world. What a pity about the camping .

    I have devised a game for myself where I read your story, try to guess the meaning of words and check if I’m write. Even though the camping trip turned disastrous, your story was excellent! 😀 Great job, Keith. 🙂

    Hi Keith. Yes, camping is not for everyone, especially what appears to be a first-timer. Camping, to me, is best served with a cozy cabin with a cozy functional kitchen and excellent wifi reception. Ah, nature.

    ps. I knew only three of the words in your list. This is almost like a game: who can score the most “I Know That Word!” after Z rolls out. The prize is: knowledge.

      I am a rough camper, and love my little tiny tent! Sounds like you are a ‘glamper’!

      I’m not sure these words will be much use in the future, but who knows?

    Some plans look good only on paper or in thoughts. I am sure, that this eventful outing will be recollected more often that the trips/excursions that go well.
    Out of the 9 new words, I knew esurient and rest added to my piggy bank of new old words 😉

    Egad and Enow I absolutely love. I’m practising them now. So that when the husband gets home on time, I can exclaim: “Egad! you’re early.” And after his second helping of food, I shall pronounce: “Enow!”
    Am I getting the hang of it Keith?
    I do feel like I’ve just read all of Chaucer’s Tales in one go. This is the closest I’ve come to Old English:)

    That was quite the misadventure. But the trekker in me guffaws at his obvious lack of success in the wild. Erelong has been one of my favourite words ever since I spotted it in Tolkien’s works. Guess I should start using it more often.
