A few words…

for Friday Fictioneers

frosty.regular

Park-keeper Pete locked the gate and headed for the pub after a busy day minding the ice rink.

The pub was packed.  All eyes turned toward Pete as he entered, holding aloft a clip-board.

He picked up his pint from the bar.

The crowd fell silent.

He took a sip.

‘Come on Pete’, called an onlooker.

He put down his glass.

The atmosphere was electric.

‘Right, now for today’s tally’.

Everyone held their breath.

‘Nine kids had accidents. Broken bones two, sprained ankles seven’  he shouted,  ‘which makes Jonny today’s winner!’

‘Yes!’ yelled Jonny.

‘The betting’s now open for tomorrow’s session’,  bellowed Pete.

Hi Keith – no wonder the ambulances can’t get to other patients … they’re obviously down the ice-rink and then the pub after this story! Fun take though on the image – cheers Hilary

They didn’t need to visit the pub Hilary, that lot were purely betting on the accident rate at the ice rink that day!

Sorry – realised that … I meant that ambulances wouldn’t be available for other members of the public – as they were picking up the ice-rink casuaities … and then the medics could go to the pub … but yes I see what you’re saying … cheers H

I sensed your story may relate to someone falling on the ice, and you did not disappoint 🙂

This week alone, three children that I know of fell and hurt their arms in the neighborhood. Perhaps it’s an epidemic? 😉

    Dear Keith,

Talk about someone profiting from someone else’s misery! I’ll admit. I laughed. Good one. 😀

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

A proper community pub – like the one I ran, although I wouldn’t have gone with this particular gambling event!

    There’s one winner.
Am sure even after the broken bones, the rest will still join later when they are okay! 🙂
    Have a great week!

I guess Pete thinks that the accidents are happening regardless, so he might as well profit. Cracking title, too!

I have been reading FF for a while and I do enjoy reading everyone’s stories. Confidence is my issue and so I’ve taken the next step and participating, hoping to conquer it. Sorry for the late reply, apart from trying to find enough personal time to read all the stories, I was afraid to switch on my computer for the fact I thought it might explode. Australia is a little crispy right now. 🙂

I’m so pleased you are joining in. You probably need something to divert your mind from the terrible enents you are witnessing right now. Stay safe.
