A handful of words…

for Friday Fictioneers

“They think they’re clever”.

“Who?”

“Them, they’re watching us”.

“How?”

“CCTV”

“I can’t see any cameras”.

“No?” said Cocpiracy Chris. “That ‘s not a synagogue, it’s an enormous camera”

Doubting Dave faced the ‘shutter’ and danced a jig.  “Chris thinks you’re a camera”  he sang, sticking up his middle finger and laughing like a hyena!

Suddenly people came running past. “What’s happening?” asked Dave.

“Don’t know” stammered Chris.  “Go!”

That night, Doubting Dave was watching the TV news when his face and finger appeared on the screen.

‘Police wish to interview this man seen acting suspiciously after a shooting in Rivington Street’,

Apparently, in the 1970s the disused synagogue was turned into a studio for artists and photographers which is why the Star of David was changed to resemble a camera shutter. Cheers, Neil.

He left his aluminum foil helmet at home. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so foolish 🙂

Didn’t people tell you to keep your hands in your pockets???! (come to think of it, maybe they said “keep your hand where I can see them” or … “keep your hands to yourself” or “hands up”?
    I give up …
    😉

Reminds me of the movie, “Running Man,” where they can use video footage to tell any story they like. Nicely told and I love your dueling frogs today.

Dunno that I would take the chance… but the Dave’s of this world are all over, aren’t they?

That’s what you get for mucking about in front of a building-sized camera…

“The Eye is on you.” Very novel – building as a giant camera. As I remember you have a stack of “winners” on Friday Fictioneers. You’re good. 😀

A serious piece of comedy. Although I suspect this CCTV camera is covering the near Galaxy and not just the pimples on Dave’s face.

Don’t tempt fate. Great concept a building being a giant camera. Big Brother is watching you.

There are so many cameras these days (including those on our phones) that it’s safer to assume that one is being filmed.
    Great take on the prompt!

    I love the idea it’s a camera!
And nice bit of the building’s history. Lots of geometry in a Star of David – two big equilateral triangles or a hexagon and six equilateral triangles? Depends on your point of view.
We visited the Camera Obscura Edinburgh and at the end were invited to scope up armies of tiny tourists onto pieces of card. Made walking along the street outside afterwards a whole different experience!
Never know when someone is watching…

I Googled the synagogue and it’s history, including the Star of David being changed to a shutter-like window, is fascinating. Camera Obscura’s are one of the earliest ‘big brother’ devices. Since childhood I’ve been fascinated by the one near me high up on Eastbourne pier. As you say, you never know!
