Short stories for children and about children!

Charlotte and William were in the back of Mum and Dad’s car. They were going on holiday. Charlotte had her favourite pink doll on her lap, and William had a book.

‘Are we there yet?’ asked William.

‘No’ laughed Dad. ‘We haven’t left town yet! Let’s play a game’.

‘I spy’ shouted Charlotte. ‘I spy with my little eye, something beginning with  er – er – er…’

Hurry up slow coach’ said William.

‘It’s difficult‘ said Charlotte. ‘I spy something, and ‘then it disappears because we are going so fast’.

‘Why don’t you count blue cars?’ asked Mum ‘When you see one shout blue, and we’ll see who spots the most’.

‘Blue’, yelled William. ‘Blue … blue … blue…’

‘Not fair’ moaned Charlotte. ‘William’s taller than me so he sees them first, it’s not fair, it’s not fair. Are we there yet?’

‘Not yet sweetie’ said Dad. ‘Why don’t you read your book to your sister William?’

‘Alright,’ William said grumpily. ‘Once upon a time, there was a big curly sheep which….’

I’ve heard it before. Are we there yet?’

Let’s sing a song’ suggested Mum.  ‘I know, we’ll sing old MacDonald had a farm!’

Mum and Dad started singing, but Charlotte and William didn’t join in.  Mum looked around and they were both fast asleep.

‘Are we there yet?’ Mum asked.

Geez. Reminds me of those long drives from Detroit to Florida with three boys. What was I thinking?

Hi Keith – we’ll all be thinking today about are we there yet … actually I think I’ll be on two feet – not in a car with kids. Enjoy the A-Z – cheers Hilary

Oh! We were on a very similar journey a month ago. My five year old kept stating, ‘But I’m tired of waiting to reach…’ He started the chant exactly fifteen minutes into the trip. A very fun (for those who haven’t been on such trips) story, Keith.

Ah, happy days! Mind you, my 40 year old daughter asked me that question last week!

Are we there yet? This has to be the most asked question of children traveling. This looks like it’s going to be a great read every day.

    Keith,

How cute! I remember the many ‘are we there yets’ from the backseat. Even today, I’ll sometimes say to DH ‘Are we there yet?” before breaking out in laughter. Awwesome beginning for the April blogfest! Thanks for visiting this morning first post contribution of The Little Mermaid Art Sketch with ARIEL on Curious as a Cathy!!

    Happy A2Zing!!

    Fun! 🙂
I only found out abour car games recently. Hungarians don’t usually commute long enough to warrant them… My parents did tell me a lot of stories in the car, though 🙂
    Happy A to Z!

We do play quite a lot of car games, although mobile phones are beginning to take over!

And so it starts… the A to Z Challenge… but I don’t want to reach the end of your posts. I won’t be spouting “are we there yet” during this journey!

That’s a nice one. Happens everytime with my 2 candies who always get bored of sitting in car on ride. Look forward to all month of stories.
