‘If we don’t get there soon, there’ll just be empty bottles and burnt bits left’ yelled Fred. Charlie was struggling to keep up.

Reverend Godfrey greeted them on the village green. ‘Gentlemen, you look exhausted’.

‘We are Vic’ said Fred. ‘Where’s the beer and burgers?’

Oh, err, well, Miss Fothergill and Widow Applethwaite have iced buns and tea in the tent, but you must vote first’.

‘Vote?’

‘Why yes gentlemen, for our Carnival Senior Princess. My money’s on naughty Lottie Lovette. Marvellous for ninety-three, and that bathing costume…’

They looked towards her and she winked.

‘B..b..but the barbecue….’ stammered Charlie.

‘Goodness, no chaps, that was yesterday’.

The Carnival Senior Princess sounds like a must to avoid. Better make sure it’s not a raffle ticket they’re giving them, as opposed to a voting slip.

    Poor chaps! Crashed expectations.
Smart way to pull them to vote 🙂
No reward either coz the barbeque was a day before!

    Dear Keith,

My very visual imagination has gone into overdrive on this one. You made me laugh.

    Shalom,

    Violet stole my line.
Guess they don’t have a handle on their calendars! I’d vote for her! 😉

Iced buns and tea can’t replace beer and burgers. Can they?

I feel sorry for those guys…they were a day late for the barbecue and also were trapped in the carnival which they didn’t want to attend

Not a good day for Charlie. First he had to vote for a person he had no love lost, second he missed his bar-b-cue, not to mention his beer.. He is really getting old.

    Another of your reminiscences, Keith?
I’m wondering if you and lovely Lottie walked out together back in the day…

We all know about Widow Applethwaite, Keith, but is Lottie a bit on the young side for you?

They were even later than they thought! Never mind, at least they got to see Lottie in her bathing costume… 🙂

Humor abounds, and now you’ve got me craving the “burnt endz”— they charge extra for those, these days!

Poor Fred and Charlie need a better calendar app, apparently! Dashed expectations, indeed. Ah well, may as well enjoy the iced buns and the talent show, now that they’re there — carpe diem, and all that!

Calender app? By the time they’d worked out how to use it they’d be two days late! Carpe diem indeed!

They do need to speed up a little in the future. This was too funny, and I vote for Lottie, too.

So sad to miss the beer and burgers, only get buns and tea. So disappointing. Love the story and the grumpy guy in the margin. =)

I’m sure she’s quite the looker for those ol’ guys.
But, somehow, I think they would have preferred burgers. LOL
Fun write, Keith. Old timers with the possibilities of a Valenitne Queen.
