Friday Fictioneers

yellowumbrellasI was in a cafe cradling a mug of steaming cappuccino. The day was grey, the street outside, busy. Shoppers bustled this way and that under a canopy of dripping umbrellas. One caught my gaze, a girl clutching golden flowers beneath a yellow brolly. She stopped, held out her arm and suddenly I was standing alongside her. ‘Come, fly with me’ she whispered.

Moments later I was looking down upon the miserable scene then up at the yellow umbrella which bathed me in sunlight. Warmth spread through my body.

It was then I realised I’d spilt my coffee in my lap.

Cute story. I am off to the high desert in Utah. I’ll be using my umbrella to keep the sun off of me and wishing for rain to cool things down.

Great story, Keith, and you had me chuckling. Oh, the perils of nodding off into a daydream!

Hi Keith – up up and away … oh how I wish… especially under the sunlit canopy of a yellow brolly … spilt coffee on one’s pants – not good for a lot of reasons! Cheers Hilary

    Dear Keith,

Such a beautiful scene until he spilled his coffee…or spilt as it were. 😉 Love it!

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

Spilled/spilt…umbrella/brolly. Let’s call the whole thing off!!! Not the best way to end a daydream! Thanks Rochelle.

Ha… warmth is a strange sensation, especially since it will be colder afterwars

Falling in love is like spilling coffee in your lap, first warm and cozy, then cold and dreary.

Smiling and chuckling! Must have been most uncomfortable at the end there..

Lovely story, with a punchline that brought the narrator and the reader down to earth with a jolt. As a man of a certain age, I can’t help saying that the cause of the sudden dampness could have been worse.

And I said, Fly on my sweet angel
    Fly on through the sky
    Fly on my sweet angel
Tomorrow I’m gonna be by your side

I would love to fly away (especially from a crowded place)! Not sure about the coffee though.

Startled awake from a lovely dream. I love the painting of the girl with flowers, holding her umbrella with winds! =)

I thought that girl took a shining to you a little too quickly. Sometimes dreams are better than what we wake to.

Explaining large wet patches on the front of your pants can be tedious. He should stick to saying Mary Poppins made him do it.

That was one hot fantasy girl.
I’ve spilt coffee in my lap. It’s not fun, and everyone thinks you’ve wet your pants.

Fantastic. It is the way the mermaids get you, and now they are using yellow umbrellas. If only.

I hate when I spill my coffee. Thankfully it mostly lands on the floor, not my lap. Thanks for the chuckle.

A fun take on the prompt. Have spilt a cup of tea on my lap, not a pleasant experience. In different circumstances, of course.

Haha I guess when someone rocks your world they don’t look to see if you’re holding coffee beforehand
